They’ve been out for a couple of years now and while many miss the six pot engines there’s no denying how good the new cars go on circuit.

I’m considering my next track/race car build options and a 2.0 718 looks like it could be turned into a very effective tool but I haven’t heard anything (positive or negative) about reliability yet. That’s probably a good sign but does anyone have any good or bad stories to tell about the engines or transmission (PDK being a common option) when they are run for sustained periods on circuit?

Would appreciate any feedback or references of where to look.

Have a search of the rennlist forums. There are quite a few people running them as track cars on there and no major reliability issues I have seen. Upgraded brakes seem like really the only thing needed for sustained track work.

The GTS will ultimately be the best base for a track car as it has the 3rd radiator which will help with temps. It's obviously quite a bit more money though. Apex run a GTS as a rental for the ring and there are some videos here of one running around various circuits very quickly: https://www.youtube.com/user/ROSSOCORSA430/videos

RSR use 718s with a PDK at Spa and the ‘ring.

Thanks chaps, good to know. It would be built for fairly serious track use so adding the extra rad could always be an option if recommended and brake upgrades are a given.
