2.9 Cayman 2011. A heads up just in case this affects others.
I noticed a faint whirring noise followed by a faint click coming from the speakers. The PCM had gone totally dead with a blank screen. The battery was pretty flat next morning, though the instrument/engine lights still came on ok.
Charged the battery and it started fine, but noticed the whir & click still present even when key removed. Next morning nearly flat again. Removed fuse for PCM. Sounds went away. Old battery now holding charge. Had ordered new Bosche battery anyway so fitted that. Seems fine with PCM disconnected.

If I buy a known to be good second-hand PCM, will this likely sort the problem or should I get mine checked first in case it's something on the PCM power supply front?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Steve

The PCM in my 2010 Boxster died one day - the internal power supply fried itself - got it repaired by Cartronics in Surrey. They did a great job, but it wasn’t cheap, but I wanted to keep OEM looks as I don’t like the look of the aftermarket units.

Cartronics do repairs by post if needed

Yes, deffo want to keep original PCM. I saw that Cartronics do a good job but easy to hit £1k...
I was surprised that even when the key was removed it still kept attempting some kind of boot up that drained the battery. I thought after approx 1hr most circuits went to sleep?
Cheers, Steve
