981 Boxster GTS - My First Porsche
Discussion
Picked up this on Friday as my first Porsche and first proper sports car.

Drove back from Cameron Sports cars and put as many miles on it as it had done in about a year. Been super happy with it so far, the noise is incredible. I’m not sure my wife is 100% sure about the x73 sport suspension though, only comes into its own travelling quickly, better drive faster! Anyone got any recommendations for skid pan tuition in your own car? Feel like it might be worth while.

Looks stunning. I think I would have picked this colour combo myself.
How is the X73 for daily driving, is it so firm it becomes annoying around town etc?
Toying with upgrading to the X73 package, but I'm worried it will shake the car to bits on rubbish city roads and introduce more cabin rattles.

My thoughts from a few weeks of ownership, bear in mind first Porsche / really fast car .How is the X73 for daily driving, is it so firm it becomes annoying around town etc?

- it comes into its own above about 40, less than that it really is firm
- I am therefore aware of the firmness a little more than I’d like. For example my wife didn’t feel great the other day and requested we didn’t use the Porsche for our planned day trip
- corners very flat indeed with little roll
- the -20mm drop looks bad ass but you are aware of how low it is
- Other car is mk7 golf gti on 18inchs and adaptive dampers. This car has exceptional body control. The Porsche is firmer than the golf in its sport/ firm mode. On a truly challenging B road the Porsche is good but gets overwhelmed and losses body control more readily than the golf (I’m only 90% certain on this, we are talking v challenging roads at speed only)
- saying that body control is much better than the m235i I drove which was frankly scary on challenging B roads
- if you do any track time I think the x73 is a no brainier, for a weekend/ special occasion car, sure go for it.
- if you have a sensitive passenger or are dailying the car I’m not sure I’d recommend
I found the same on 987 suspension.
Purchased an 11k mile 987 Spyder. Very jiggly Low speed ride, thought was Spyder specific. Came in to its own above 45-50 mph. On rails.
Same again 2.9 987.2 boxster. 7k miles. Super firm Low speed ride, jiggly firm. At 40-45 again smoother and composed. Above 100-110 no answers to rough roads.
Get decent suspension, life is sorted. Ohlins with slightly softer spring rates than they come with and its gliding down the road. Super comfortable and hardly have to have the throttle pressed when cruising 40-50-60 zones.
Going at high speeds 110-120 and superb composure. Have to wonder how it does it!

Thanks Devil, I appreciate you taking the time to reply in detail. Certainly food for thought.- it comes into its own above about 40, less than that it really is firm
