I've searched a lot, and all the online 'tips' just don't work on my 2000 reg Boxster 986. Upside down batteries, locking and unlocking at the door 5 times holding the buttons, stand your head with it under your armpit, whatever. smile Nothing. I've read on here a recommendation for Revolution but it's a 250 mile round trip and 7 hrs plus from here.

Since 2019 when I got it, one key worked fine and the other reluctantly (several presses required every time). Last month, first the good one and then the other one failed 3 weeks later. The internal batteries are fine. On one the LED flashes quickly on pressing the button, and on the other one it flashes slowly (this indicates it has definitely lost synchronisation I believe). Do they really just run out of rolling codes?

I can open the door manually and get the key in to stop the alarm going off, but getting in and closing the door to operated the dash c/l button before I can get out again to open the boot or front lid is starting to get annoying. It's got the manual cable release, which I prefer, but there is an interlock that stops them working until the car is fully unlocked, and the door is open. I suppose I could get the panel off and disconnect it but then the boot or front lid could be operated from inside the car with the door closed and moving, not advisable!

One keymaster place advised putting the key right by the base of the passenger seat and pressing the fob to check it wasn't a connection to the dash receiver (?) Still nothing. He also advised (fair play) that he'd be no cheaper than a dealer. Is this an OPC only fix or are there any other recommendations?

Some car insurance companies offer key cover which is separate to your main policy. So a claim does not affect your no claim bonus and there is no excess. I dont know if these policies cover key damage but they do cover you for accidental loss. So if you lose a key they will replace it. And I'm assuming the new key would surely have to work. You simply call up the ins co and say I have lost my key and then answer some very simple questions.
