Hi, Looking for some advice, as I'd like to buy a 987 Cayman, but want to know where we think we now stand regarding facelift 2.9 and 3.4 engines.

Did the 3.4 DFi engine cure the bore scoring issue, or is it still a thing?

And, what about the 2.9? I know there were a few stories about some sort of premature piston failure/excessive oil use. Did that turn into a known issue, or was it just one or two manufacturing anomalies?

Many thanks in advance to the PH collective for any learned advice. I must say I really do appreciate the Porsche pages on here. They're very good.

The .2's are the ones to go for.

From what I can see ( and I follow the progress of both 987.1 and 2 ), you could regard yourself as extremely unlucky to have a significant problem with either engine on a 987.2.

I'm a live on the edge, don't play by the rules kind of guy, so obviously am going down the game of chance, russian roulette 987.1 direction personally!
