do they really need replacing every 4 years ?

my car's only done 14k, owned it from new and nothing wrong with it.......just seems that £340 seems very expensive.

could it wait until the next service ?

My understanding is that if spark plugs are left longer than 4 years then the risk of them corroding in place. If you are handy with spammers, then just remove, inspect and replace if necessary.
Within the garage environment, a lot of the cost is labour, so you may as well have the new plugs while they are working on the car.

Looks like it’s the coil pack bolts that seize/snap, I’ll have to take a look at mine.

My Cayman 718 S has just had its 4 year service and I was told it is standard to replace them after 4 years @ £211.87 + VAT..... I had them changed. They weren't changed after 2 years (done 16,000 miles in case that is relevant)

HI, would be interested to know which OPC as I’ve just been quoted £1757 for the four year service on my Cayman S

That’s almost double what I paid in February for my Spyder (including plugs and brake fluid) - suggest you shop around, I found 2 or 3 OPCs in the Midlands that were around the same amount.

On another thread there were 5 or 6 other owners who had all paid similar amounts this year so definitely not a one off.

£1,757 is an insane quote, I wonder if anybody actually pays these ridiculously inflated amounts? I suspect the service team must have a bet going to see how mad a quote they can get away with!

I had something similar from one of the Porsche owned OPCs. Needless to say I didn’t take up their kind offer and went elsewhere.

Porsche used to run a fixed price service scheme for what were called Participating Centres. Not all Porsche Centres were Participating.

The scheme no longer exists but these are the prices in December 2019.

and former Participating Centres

My 991.2 was serviced in June for the equivalent price for age and model by PC Chester.

Spark plugs were charged at £16.30 + VAT (6 of course).

Thanks for all the info. It was Reading that quoted and it looks like they’re not on the list of participating dealers. The £1757 price included £260 to service the aircon. Even without that it was twice what I was expecting. Tyres were another high margin item for them, MPS4S all four was nearly £1200. £234 for fitting if I supplied them. Will be calling a few more OPCs on Monday.

£1473.40 incl VAT for my Cayman 718 S 4 year service which included the spark plugs, air con service, brake fluid change and MOT. At Guildford (not notoriously cheap!) . You mentioned tyres - I have just replaced mine with Michelin PS4S 20" NO Porsche rated for £890 via Black Circles if that helps

Get the service, inc plugs and brake fluid done by an OPC for the stamp in the book.

The air-con can be done by one of the air-con specialists for a lot less. Shop around for the tyres and if you can get a fitter you trust to fit them, they are available for a lot less online - try Camskill.

There is the inconvenience of having to go to three places rather than one, but there's also the satisfaction of not being taken for a mug.

What is an air-con service? It isn't on the list.

I think you'll find the emphasis is on the "con" rather than the "service".

Spark plugs? I left them 6 years in my 981 (4yrs recommended) without the slightest difficulty.
