718 GT4 - new exhaust option from Ninemeister
Discussion
Yep, the day has finally arrived and I've just picked up my "tart's handbag of tat" of a 718 GT4 from Ninemeister after having a new rear silencer fitted. It's taken a few months and a couple of attempted fitments to get it right as we were trying to avoid sending my car away to the fabricators but in the end that's what we had to do. The 718 GT4 engine bay is pretty tight and the exhaust has to be exactly the right size otherwise it fouls the heat shielding or chassis. The 'tart' in question:

Mine is the first 718 GT4/Spyder/GTS 4.0 system they've produced, using my car as a template for measurements. They're going to be offering the silencer in both stainless steel and inconel - mine is in inconel. It's 9m designed and UK built and weighs approx 10kg which is around half the weight of the original silencer. I have the carbon fibre tips, other options will be available and pricing is very competitive
They're looking for someone who's after a full GPF delete system and remap to do some development with if anyone's up for it. It's a step too far for me at the moment though!
Here's the previous version of my exhaust which has been slightly tweaked since as the bullet silencers were sitting too high:

Given that the rear end was taken apart a few times I took the opportunity to have a post running-in oil change done during one of the car's visits to 9m. It had done around ~2500 miles at the time of the oil change so it was a good time to do it since I'd been using the full rev range for a bit.
Initial impressions from me are that it's pretty darn good! It's louder, naturally, but the frequency/tone of the exhaust is less bassy. It has more poke to it. It also sounds less muffled, as you'd expect with less silencing. Once you get the revs up and the valves open (I have the factory valve operation in place, no bypass system fitted) the car certainly screams much more. As my wife described it "more race car"
Even though I was happy enough with the sound as standard, especially as it increased along with the miles covered, a bit more exhaust aggression hasn't gone amiss. It's been quite cool to be along for the development ride too

Oh, and along with the exhaust this fell into the car at Ninemester too - the first one in the world we think. With it fitted, along with the exhaust, it's transformed the car into something totally ridiculous. It's such fun to drive!

So, elephant in the room, what happens to your warranty from changing the flywheel? Also, whats the increase in NVH like? (and how many times have you stalled it
)
No idea re. the warranty so I'll cross that bridge if it comes to it. I wasn't planning on taking out the extended warranty anyway, I guess now I'm definitely not!
)
No change in NVH that I can tell except maybe a touch more mechanical noise at tickover? I haven't stalled it once, you'd think it was factory fit. Tickover is perfect, auto blip works exactly as it did etc. By hell it spins up quick though and the reduction in engine braking is a big difference too. The engine is now very "sprightly"

That's good to hear, I did see the 9m post on Rennlist and thought it looked quite interesting. Though I suspect a DMF may save the transmission from ham fisted oafs such as myself. I wouldn't mind having a nosy if you find yourself at a track day or two next year
.
As much as I dislike the fact we have GPF's, I'm not brave enough to take up that development offer, though I bet it would be sweet. (If my fiancée didn't want two weddings, I might be considering it
)
Mine boarded the boat today... not long now! (doesn't feel like it though).

I'll definitely be on a track day next year, at least a couple of the PCGB ones are in my mind at the moment.

Sounds mega that, and a shock to see you install it, gets addictive this modding lark.

sounds a great match for the new engine.
what the exhaust button do now sound wise ?, cannot be much change.

Why a shock?sounds a great match for the new engine.
It's a brilliant match for the engine. I'm fine with the manual gearing but for those detractors I'd suggest it's less of an issue with the LWFW, and much cheaper than a re-gear or a power increase.

No, not much. Just a bit more volume at higher revs. There's not a lot of silencing with the valves closed as you can see.As 911R says - you've come along way in just over a year... lol...
TwinFan :
- No need for a GT4 - not enough difference between GT4 and GTS, Wing is stupid
- Never will track....
- Never will mod..
Also Twinfan:
- Buys a GT4 because he loves it and he loves wings, and because racecar.
- Booked up trackdays
- LWFW and 'zorst on Brand new GT4.
LOL - sorry I had to.... and actually kudos to you. Do what you like.
But seriously congrats - very glad you're happy with it and the mods, and as you say its nice to be involved in a new project/product and the development process.
Defo look forward to seeing it on some of the PCGB days.

cheers TDT!All true, except I've never said I love wings! I tolerate the one on my car and have grown to like it, but I seriously dislike the ones on GT3s/GT3RSs for road use and the upcoming cars with top mount/swan neck wings look ridiculous!
Oh, and the GTS vs GT4 comparison was for 981s when I had my 981 GTS

Things change, opinions change, such is life. Definitely see you at a track somewhere next year

Give them a ring and speak to Peter re. pricing and fitting.
The exhaust is 2-3 hours work, the flywheel on its own is 5-6. It's more cost effective to do the flywheel at the same time as an exhaust, obviously, if you're having both.
I'd personally be wary of non-silenced versions as you're asking for lots of boominess and drone at lower revs. I don't think any of the manufacturers can get round that issue.

Yay, something interesting happens to a GT4 rather than comparing the aerodynamic layout of dust particles from opening the garage door
Your car looks great and I'm excited to hear how you get on with the FW.
Glad to see 9e expanding their ranges..
It's 9m, not 9e, just to be clear

I'm with you on the dust particles
