The colour is obviously a personal choice, likewise the wheels. And, not a fan of the ‘Halfords’ stripes - but they can easily be pealed off.

Whilst it has some nice options, the lack of Heated Seats, PCM (unless I’m mistaken) and Climate Control would be a deal breaker for me.

I like the colour...

It's got PSE too even though they haven't listed it.

When you say gen 2 Boxster do you mean 987.2?

There's bugger all manual 981S for sale ATM so prices reflect that.

That one is a 7yo car and you can find similar mint 987.2S for £10k cheaper only a year or two older ...and essentially the same engine.

Hi. Mine is a 2.9 manual- I had a number of 911”s & this is the first mid engine one that i have & love. Got a pdk cayman a while ago when the 991 was being serviced. Made me realise the 911 really was a gt car & the cayman was it’s natural replacement. This looks a little expensive given its 7 years old though

The 981 market doesn't seem to have dropped much, if at all over the last 12 months. Probably due to the lack of love for the 718. You can find yourself in a 718S for a few grand more. Nicer inrerior, arguably better looks, but with that engine.

Personally I like the car in the OP, the colour is subjective, I prefer the Sport Design wheel, though on a manual it isn't as much of an issue.

^^^ I agree about the Sport Design steering wheel. It adds alot to the interiors vibe and it's the one part of the car you interact with all the time smile

981 values have definitely held firm.

I'd definitely be trying to test drive a well spec'd 987.2 Cayman S as well a 981. Also, at mid £30's you're into Cayman R territory so drive one while your at Ashgoods trying the 981

Price looks about right, as said some nice options, lists PCM 3.0 so worth checking it has the NAV.

Sports exhaust, leather dash are a plus.

Having bought a GTS from Ashgood in August, I’d recommend them, very helpful, not pushy, knowledgeable and a friendly bunch to deal with.

Mine is also speed yellow, it’s a superb colour and really shows the cars lines off well.

As said above, might be worth having a drive of an ‘R’ whilst you’re there, but if you fancy something a tad more modern than the 987 that would be a decent option in my eyes.

I'd personally check out their red 718 manual as well while I was there. It may transpire to be vastly better value, especially if you can look past the usual forum nonsense about the sound. You could at least have them start it up and make your own decision. The others are much older and [the market is] hugely overpriced in comparison.

ymmv, imo etc, etc

Personal taste is a funny thing, I really like the stripes against the yellow. The wheels on the other hand are horrific.

You're lucky Ashgoods have a manual 987R, 981 and 718 in stock at the same time. I would just be going and driving all three before one of the three manuals disappears.

You're right about personal taste; I'm a firm no on the stripes and the yellow, but I really like the wheels!

Aren’t those wheels the heaviest of the 20” options?

^^^^ This. The 718 is £2K less and, to my mind, is far more than £2K better than that Cayman S. The torque of the 718 makes it much quicker day to day than the 3.4 S and in my opinion would work better with the long gearing of the manual transmissions these two cars share.

Even though the the 718 isn't an 'S' so has less hp?

For a sprint from standstill and around a track there's nothing in it (https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/azoln0lilgn7) apart from the 718 being £2K less expensive and newer. If you want to go even faster around a track, take it (the 718 2.0) and the saving (+ some more for the VAT) to 9E and you'll have in return a 390 bhp weapon - now where did that 981 go?

Don't under estimate torque for every day use, certainly trumps hp. By the time you've dropped a gear or two in the 981 to get the engine spinning, the 718 would be pulling away (even without 9E trickery). Granted as one approaches 170 mph the 981 might be coming up, but in the UK that is rarely a scenario.

My base 718 cayman (no mod's) is noticably quickier in gear than my ex-neigbours 981 S Boxster.

All that is true - just a matter of whether you can live with the soundtrack and the lag.

I freely admit the 981 does sound better. How much better is subjective. For me the overall performance, drivability and upgrades of the 718 over the 981 (plus in this used case, a £2K saving) more than compensate the lack of aural pleasure!
