Finally got my GT4 - Now Things
Discussion
As many of you know been looking for awhile for a nice GT4 , within my budget (£70K max including any things required to do and transport)
Looked at quite a few all owners were fantastic and helpful bar one who was a total tube and now races people in his GT3 RS against Mclaren in the wet so I did not go further with that car, but most got rejected as they were not correct spec for my must haves, great spec but too much, wrong colour (I did not want black and found the red a bit too red especially when you added in red stitching. Really like the blue form the start and thats what I wanted as first choice ), to far way with lockdown, too high mileage etc
This one was local. Had all the must haves I wanted Dual Climate, Xenon Headlamps, buckets (so far I love them but only time will if I made the right choice), extended leather, chrono, full PPF, Harnesses for both seats
So a I put a bid in and it got rejected as he wanted to sell it for more privately which was fair enough. He had no luck so we did a deal at my original offer . Both us happy and a very easy transaction
So happy with it. Missing some minor things like steering wheel marker and cruise but these can be added later. I though I wanted BOSE but the thing is quite loud so not bothered as upgraded stereo is fine . I was also unsure of the blue trim inside as I thought wanted carbon but once i saw it it actually looks raelly good and breaks up the cabin with a bit of colour , but it is personal choice and worst comes to worst you can get it wrapped or change it for genuine parts, but so far I really like it
Things I would like to do
Upgrade Sat Nav maps so it at least shows Aberdeen Bypass
Refurbish Alloys to maybe gold but undecided yet
Set up Geo for fast road
See how I get on with the cup 2 tyres over the next 10 months then change them as they will be worn or be nearly 6 years old so need a refresh anyway
Other than that happy as hell as it is not only my first Porsche but my first Porsche GT, what a way to start Porsche ownership
Could not have got this far without all my questions being answered on here. So big thanks to all on here for making my wee dream come true
Photos to follow as I can seem to up load from my macbook . but can form my phone
Edited to add
3 previous owners which is lower than some but seems below average, I am owner 4
9950 miles when I got it but now over 10,000 but does not worry me as I like a car that has been used every year
Registered Jan 2016
Full Porsche service history, last serviced Dec 2019 so not due till Dec 2021 or Jan 2022
New MOT when I got it 111 point check done and showed only over revs in range 1 which the garage said was very low and unusual on a GT car but no idea if that is true or not. Only thing it needed after 11 point check was rear near side brake duct which previous owner kindly paid as it was only £51
Porsche warranty till Jan 2022
Original Tyres all with about 3.5-4.0mm left on them so plenty life to get used to them next year before decinding

My Initial impressions
Build quality is amazing minor things like the underside of the front boot is exposed metal but painted to the same standard as the exterior and that impressed me
Interior seems very well built but not sure about the fabric door handle things as I can see them getting grubby , can you buy replacement so do most people just wash them ?
Sound very good, better than I expected but sat nav has out dated maps and no easy way to upgrade to latest maps like you can in my last BMW 420d
Interior much nosier than I expected. Obviously engine just behind you does not help and the tyres are quite noisy but they are road legal track tyres so I expect that as I have similar on my Evo
Love the auoblip makes average drivers like me look great on downshifts. Gearbox exchange is best I have come to use even better than my Evo which I found to be great. This seem for direct and mechanical if that makes sense
Suspension is absolutely amazing it rides way better than my 420d ever did and I can see it will be great on our A roads in sport suspension mode .
Gearing is fine not notice the long gearing as I just short shift and the engine has plenty of torque. Yes it could be shorter and my Evo is the opposite as I wish 2nd to 3rd was just a bit longer. But you know what you just learn to live with it and drive around it , plus if you really want there is a fix
MPG is pretty good on a longer commute
Dials are really clear and for something that gets little attention I think the clarity and layout of Porsche dials should be the default on all cars. Rev counter in the middle with gear and speed in digital format.
Exhaust not is really good rubles at start up but really comes to life above 4000rom and just gets better. Not sure If i really want anything louder unless it was louder outside but a bit bit quieter inside if such a thing exists
Engine seems to have plenty of torque low down and is not only happy to get you into 6th gear at silly low revs but encourages you to do it on the display. Handy for boring straight line journeys
Lights are great, not tried LED but these are more than bright enough as this car will be use March to October so luckily no winter nights.
Tyres noisy but more grip than I feared. Once you get them up to temp and pressure they are fine, I imagine like any track day tyre they do not like the cold or wet, same me TBH. As this till be a fun car it will only be used on nice warm days so do not see any issues with them but always have the option to switch to PS4s as an option.
Steering feels ok at low speeds but fine at normal speeds, but need to really give it a good thrash on our wee A roads to see how it copes
It has PCCB and so no dust but not sure how they will be. Don't seem to have the initial bite that you get with a big set of Steel Brembos but seem to stop fine, again a good thrash and we can see how they are
It has full PPF and whilst you can see some joins if you look carefully such as where roof panel meets the quarter panel it has been put on really well and it makes cleaning it a doddle. Rinse, Snow foam, Rinse, Shampoo, dry, done. As it is quite a small car about the same as my daughter pol it really is a quick 15 min job to do
And there you have my thoughts after nearly 1 week of owning it feel free to ask any questions

Congrats. Great choice. Enjoy in good health, and make sure to post up in the forum.
Ps, Bose was not available on 981 GT4, Sound package plus was the top option, so you're not missing out there.
Thank you and yes good health to you too my friend and after this year it has shown health is everything Ps, Bose was not available on 981 GT4, Sound package plus was the top option, so you're not missing out there.

I thought BOSE was available as I ma sure I saw a few cars with it , but I might be wrong as I did look at 991 carrera S and 4s as well . Either way it sounds ok and suits the car as you listen to the engine / exhaust note when pressing on and only use the stereo for mundane bit of driving like these bloody average speed cameras

Great work.
And I agree that a Merc is nice counterpoint to a good thrashing in a stiffly sprung Porsche.
2 toatlly different cars . I bought the S class for my dad but he never really drove it . It os a 2008 with only 50,000 miles and worth not a lot so when my 420d lease ended it made sense it use this. I enjoy the comfort of it and it makes me look forward to driving the Gt4 even more when in the mood And I agree that a Merc is nice counterpoint to a good thrashing in a stiffly sprung Porsche.
I must admit I find the suspension really supple coming from the harsh 420d with run flat tyres

Nice Sid. Really glad you got it sorted. Looks ace!
Thanks bud, took me a while but I was in no hurry and wanted to stay within budget as that will allow me to swap daughters wee 1.2 Tsi polo for a new model Gti polo or old model Golf GTi that I can then use occasionally But we got there in the end
Could have pushed out the finances to get a new or nearly new GT4 but this just felt right and the colour just made my mind up as I like it better than the Gentian Blue, which is very similar to my Evo in Icelle Blue so Sapphire is a nice change of blue for us as my wife's car is blue, daughters car is blue, Evo is blue
Any thoughts on what private plate to put on out of these or leave it as it is apart form GT04 plate the rest I have on retention cert
GT04 plus 3 letters
12 NXT as in 1 2 NEXT
20 OLX as in ROLEX ot TOOL X
60 DDY as in GO DADDY
65 YBX no idea why i bought this lol
KRA 8B as is KRABB for fishing or Mr KRAB from sponge bob or even K RABB ( good Scottish surname )
ERY 1X as in ERIK
Apart from GT04 plus 3 letters , all the rest were bought to resell and have no meaning to me but I do like GO DADDY as my kids like that but I would still sell it lol

981s are very good, despite what certain "R" people say But we got there in the end

LOL I was going to say that but did not want to start a war on here
. They sound better than the 718. Also I see prices still buoyant and a lot of cars I was looking at are no longer for sale so I assume they are sold
Also numbers of cars is getting less as at one point there was over 70 GT4 for sale not less than 60.
I still think prices will drop a bit more once PDK cars land but will firm up in the long term as all old Porsche seem to do

Fantastic Sid, congratulations. A perfect colour combo....enjoy.
Thanks for the kind words. I love blue and I really love Sapphire Blue. Plus I am not keen on Black wheels so getting Sapphire Blue with Platinum is a pretty good combo but I think Sapphire Blue and Gold alloys could be good too Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
