Porsche Cayman Instrument Cluster

A few weeks ago I noticed this strange occurrence on my Cayman. It looked to me like an insect crawling across the instrument cluster! The car is 14 years old and is left outside throughout the year. As the days go on it is steadily getting worse. Anybody have a clue as to what’s causing it?
As far as rectifying it I believe I have two options. Send the cluster away to be repaired or obtaining a pre-owned cluster. Anybody have an opinion on the best option?

They recondition all Smiths & Jaeger Guages so may be able to help .
