I'm at the early stages of looking at a 981 GT4 that I will want to use on track. Past experience tells me that harnesses are a definite improvement so, with apologies if this has been answered somewhere (I did do a search), my question is ...

How are 4 point harnesses fitted? (it looks like there are mounting points behind the seats but are these on all cars or just clubsport spec ones?

Is there a difference to the fitment bases on whether a car has the rollcage or not?

Thanks.

Factory mounting for the 6-point harnesses are only available on Clubsport cars... as these mounts are welding into the body in white.

The factory Clubsport roll cage is not used for mounting harness in the GT4

There are aftermarket options available however... via harness bar for shoulder belts and then using the seat belt mounting points and also with a sub belt bar under the seat.

The other options is to replicate the factory set up with shoulder belt mounting in the firewall by using kits available from companies like Brey-Krause https://www.bkauto.com/default.asp

Plenty of tuning shops can help you out here.

Your seats will also need to have pass-through for the belts so that typically means bucket seats.

Thank you - that’s really clear and helpful.

Am I right in thinking that all clubsport cars have the cage? (I thought that it was included in the package but some cars are advertised as clubsport that have no cage)

Correct. All Clubsport have the roll cage.
Clubsport was a cost option in 981 GT4 and remains so in the 718 GT4.
At the time of 981 you then had a choice of 2 bucket seats which you had to spec.

Clubsport is no-cost option in the GT3/RS.

Thanks - as I suspected, some cars advertised as clubsport clearly aren’t. It’s the harness mounting I’m more interested in than the roll cage per se.

Definitely check out BK auto site l linked.
Also give someone like RPMTechnik a call, as I have seen quite a few Cayman 981 and 987 that they have retro fitted harness mounts into.

Great - thanks - looks like harnesses are (relatively) easy to retrofit. I have seen a couple of harness bar options as well as the mounts you linked to on the BK site.

Do the buckets seats have mounting points for the lap belts already?

In Clubsport cars the lap belts mount to the chassis, not the seats.

No

Correct

You’ll need to get additional hardware for sub belt attachement, as I mentioned in my first post.
Something like this.... from BBI

Others are available.... maybe BK site has something.

It’s my understanding that you could option the Clubsport package but delete the roll cage if you wanted more storage

Rear cage is easily removable, yep.
I don’t think it was a delete option but you could ask your delivering OPC to remove it/not fit it on PDI.

In terms of storage, you’ll gain back full use of the area on top of the engine bay.

Then of course you’ll need somewhere to store the cage.
When it comes to resale… you’ll need to explain where the rear cage is… preferably in the advert.

That looks horrendous

Get a clubsport or don’t bother with harnesses. All these brackets are max power spec.
Once it’s in, you’ll never see it?!! And it’s fit for purpose, if you cannot get a Clubsport?
What’s wrong with it apart the BBI logo cut out?

Other options are also available... it’s just an example.

That’s said, I’d only get harness in a car that has roll cage, and I only use my Harness with a HANS.

My thoughts entirely. It's definitely a Clubsport car for me. Off to the Classifieds ...
