I've always been underwhelmed at the engine noise in my 987.1 CS but didn't really want to go down the modification route. Last weekend I decided to remove the carpet/sound deadening engine cover from the top of the engine (the metal cover is still in place). Oh my word, what a difference! Just rumbling about at low speed you can hear every detail of the intakes, pistons, belts etc but above 3,000 RPM the tone really fills the cabin. Above 5,000 it actually screams to the red line. I can't believe what a difference it has made. It has totally transformed the car for me and makes revving it out so much more enjoyable.

I am probably late to the party on this one, but for those who haven't tried it, I would urge you to do so.

You can also strip the carpet covering the bulkhead engine access panel behind the seats.

Only negative about taking out the top panel carpet/foam is that the aluminium engine cover panel heats up once you stop moving...or turn the car off completely.

I haven't noticed any extra heat in the car when driving, although did wonder about it heating up when it's left in the summer sun. I shall keep an eye on that. Still an amazing mod for 9 months of the year smile

It only happens when you stop driving. There's enough airflow when on the move to keep it cool.

I don't really park mine in busy places and just leave a window down when I park it in garage.

You could always swap the aluminium engine cover for a glass one although you might want to have the engine bay detailed.

Yeah I thought about those but the flat 6 is hardly a visual delight so I think i'll keep my hands in my pockets on that one.
