I bought a new (to me) Cayman over the new year and thought I'd introduce it and share my experience now I've done a few miles in it.

I was looking for a new car for daily/runs/light track use and a higher mileage 987.2 S manual is what I wanted. Previous Porsches have been a 944 turbo, 987.1 CS manual, 997.1 c2s manual.

After getting a few inspected that were absolute dogs I spotted one extremely well priced at a garage a long distance away from me (2010 987.2 CS manual), following vids/photos and negotiations I went for it. I'd missed a few others so didn't hang around too long. Safe in the knowledge that it could be returned in 14 days if I didn't like it I wasn't too worried about a remote purchase, I'd do a good few miles and inspect it at my leisure once I received it.

Spec was taken mainly from the photos/vid.

Once I received the car I was amazed at the condition for a higher mileage example, especailly the interior - well looked after (interior could be a 30k mile car), it also had FPSH and Porsche warranty up till the previous service.

I've never been fussed for spec but another pleasant surprise was the spec, highlights (and stuff I don't understand) being:

220 - LSD Limited Slip Differential
342 - Heated seats
375/6 - 2 way sports seats
454 - Cruise control
490 - Sound system A.S.K (no idea what this is?)
573 - Auto air-con
608 - Garage door open (actually works)
610 - Nav
635 - Parking sensors
665 - PCM 3 (of course)
666 - Telephone (but it's bluetooth anyway, weird)
844 - Multifunction steering wheel (not a fan of this)
870 - Universal multimedia interface (no idea?)
981 - Leather dash and doors
(plus some of the usual gubbins)

Chuffed about the LSD (it's the nice surprise) because I think this means the stability/traction turns fully off when it's off? I believe the LSD isn't the best however.

Anyway that's it, I made the right choice on the car although I now have an air-con leak from the condenser which is fair enough as I think it happened during my ownership as it's a big leak and it worked fine during my initial ownership. Everything else works perfectly.

Just need to sort out an exhaust now once the air-con is fixed, oh and it's pilot sports instead of super sports which I'd prefer. Dirty pic below:

Edit - It's also got a short shift which I think was Porsche fitted going by the receipts

Very nice smile

The universal audio interface is the bit in the arm rest that allows you to connect USB/3.5mm jack. Handy to have as these don't have BT audio streaming (I don't think).

Pretty sure the TCS off isn't fully off in these, but significantly turned down. My car has the LSD being an R. Cars with sports chrono have a "sport" option which backs off the stability and traction control a bit.

I find the super sports pretty good until it's wet. I assume PS4S will be going on? Probably what mine will get on it next - it only got SS as there was no stock of the PS4S rear size in Europe at the time I needed them.

Enjoy the car biggrin

Nice story, lovely looking car in Guards Red too!

The "ASK" amplifier is, I believe, the second step in sound systems. There is a base version (not for UK market), the enhanced version (ie: the ASK) and then the BOSE version.

Paul, thanks for confirming about the audio jacks, how is this stuff even an option. The DSC off stuff still bemuses, it's an off button laugh

I mean to get PS4S on it, that's what I meant although I might have gotten my terminology wrong.

Riccardo, thanks and thanks for explaining smile

From my original brochure..............if OP is really interested smile

Sound Package Plus.
This high-quality sound system is available as optional equipment on the Cayman and Cayman S. Power is supplied by a 4 x 25-Watt amplifier unit in the PCM terminal and an external analogue system for the low and mid-range speakers (2 x 55 and 25 Watts, respectively). A total of nine loudspeakers adapt that output to the car’s unique interior acoustics. Output settings are easily adjusted via the sound menu in the CDR-24 CD radio or optional PCM. A loudness function accentuates bass and treble at lower volume levels. Speeddependent volume control provides continuous compensation for changes in road noise. Additional features include CD storage in the glove compartment.

Cheers Smithy smile

Lonely, thanks for the incredibly detailed response. I noticed the volume increasing at higher speed, had a few cars do that and I'm not a fan. At higher speeds I prefer more car noise than music smile

I got the aircon sorted today (still needs refilled) and also made mesh grills to protect the new ones. I got gt3 front brake ducts fitted also.

Cheers, Dunc.

I think there's a way to turn the speed dependant volume off if you dig deep into the menu! I've owned mine for 11 years now (3 yr old when I bought it) and still don't know everything it does. Like you I prefer to hear the engine so the entertainment system is rarely switched on.
