986 and early 987 Tiptronics feedback
Discussion
If the 986 is the same as the 996 then the tiptronic gearbox changed. Early ones (996.1. 3.4) have a ZF box whilst later ones (996.2 3.6) have a Daimler box.
They all have the buttons on the steering wheel, but if you get one I highly recommend getting a manual steering wheel converted with AMG paddle shifts as they are much better to use than the little plastic rocker switches.

Didn’t realise that was an option to get an aftermarket paddle mounted steering wheel, but if I did, would be kept more oem to be honest. Just a simple nice top down experience and an easier relaxed drive with enough power on tap for overtakes hence thinking 987 3.2s tip
