I recently purchased a 987.1S. It’s in great condition but I’d like to freshen up how it feels a bit (it’s on 52k miles). I’ve read that replacing the engine mounts can sharpen things up considerably. Has anyone done this, how much roughly with an indie, and did it make a difference?

Hi,

It's quite a common thing to replace and can be easily done as a DIY provided that you don't mind lying on your back (I've hired ramps when I have done them).

It'll only sharpen things up if your old one is knackered and even then it's not really a transformative change unless the old one has got really bad

Thanks for the response. I read some threads where owners had almost declared it a life-changing moment. Others were the same as you and said only do it if it’s knackered. The cars a relatively low mileage so it’s probably fine. It just doesn’t feel as tight as a previous 987 I had. Maybe it’s just my perception having been driving other cars in between this one and my first.

Personally, if you want to tighten it up (and assuming the engine mount is okay) I'd swap out the gearbox mounts with something a bit stiffer. These genuinely do make a difference you can feel and the job is far easier. Alongside that (probably before in fairness) I'd work my way through the suspension as worn bushes tend to make everything feel a bit tired.

Good luck!
