Hi All, I'm speccing a new 718 and am currently trying to decide between the standard seats or the sports seats plus. Any views ? I believe the bolstering around the shoulder area is slightly bigger with the plus but apart from that is there much difference between them?

Will have to make it into the dealer and try each type but before that happens I'm interested in any views...

Thanks

I have both in 2 different cars and actually don't have a preference as I'm quite comfortable in either. I think it will ultimately depend on your size and weight as to which you'll prefer so as you rightly say try them and see.

Agree with Voodoo. It all depends on your body type.

I've had both however the standard sports seats were in leather and my current sport seats plus are in alcantara. I find the latter more comfortable on the bum but really do try both. If you can, go for an extended test drive. Just sitting in a seat in the showroom may not be enough.

Speaking of 718 seat options. Who on earth specs the Sports Seats Plus option with cloth??? I didn't even know that option existed other than alcantara but this car for sale says different?

You go the extra mile getting extended leather on the dash/doors and then not the seats!

Sports plus seats are way better in my experience having owned a 981CS for nearly 6 years. Having tried both before buying I made sure we got a car with them. Not only more comfortable but have more torso side support along with the shoulder wings, and also increased thigh support.
We did euro trips of up to 2600 miles and never had an issue with them. Best seat of any car I've had (including 4 porsche's).

People pay extra for alcantara in GTS models. If you looked at the options list on the majority of Porsches, you’d swear the car comes with no seats, no steering wheel, no headlights and no wheels. Big business.

Agree it’s worth it for the plus seats. Also, the multi adjustable ones are 18 way, versus 14 on the standard shape, and brilliant they are.

Not a necessity, but the level of adjustability is superb, particularly on long journeys, you can really take little pressure points out. Depends on use and the normal plus seats are great in their own right, but having adjustment over the side and back bolsters along with the seat itself I find very useful, depending on what type of journey I’m having..

Totally agree with Royal I have had both seats and the 18 ways are very good, my only comment is they are heavier but if the car is mainly a road car not a problem.

My first 981 had sports seats, and I often found that I struggled to get comfortable. I'm 5'11" and pretty large build. I found that my hamstrings would ache as it felt like there wasn't enough legroom even with my seat back as far as it would go. My second 981 has sports seats plus, and I find that I can slide the seats far enough backwards that my legs rest on the seat squab comfortably, and so that I can't reach the pedals. I'm not sure how the two seats can feel so different, but to me the difference is very noticeable. I think the seats in the 718 are the same.

I have had both.

The plus seats are leagues ahead, in my opinion. I wouldn't buy a car without them unless it was very cheap.

What about 2 way and 18 way ss plus? Is it worth going for the 18 way since it will be heavier and I will only be the one driving it so do not need memory function.

Other than how they fit you I find the less controls seats have the less you will mess with them trying to chase a 'perfect' seating position.

IMHO there's nothing wrong with standard seats and I wouldn't choose a better seat if it meant compromising on other options.

I'm still amazed at how many people load up the options on Porsche but do not opt for the far superior Climate Control and decide on basic AC having to mess with the temperature and fan speed control all the time. AC only is a deal breaker for me unless there are a significant number of my options ticked and even then I'd think twice.

Just goes to show we are all different... I have no problem with the standard a/c on my Boxster.

On the other hand the manual seats don't work for me. I find it much more comfortable to have the front of the squab angled upwards and the manual seats do not have a tilt facility. Electric seats was the #1 option I was looking for when I was searching for my 981 and it's a rare option.
