I think this truly marks the beginning of the end of an era for me.

I suppose we're lucky enough to have lived in a world where we could enjoy ICE cars in all their glory.

Things just won't be the same without the wail of a straight / flat 6, the rasp of a V8 and the induction sounds of petrol engines.

All progress of course....

At least it sounds better than the 4 pot.

Still looks like a very early mule car to me. Perhaps a powertrain test car.

If it ends up looking like that, it would be one of the best looking EVs out there. I’m not sure an EV sports car makes sense but let’s see! It’s pretty cool that it’s being honed on the Ring, it shows intent.

I have began to wonder what will be.

Will the petrol engine enthusiasts be eventually just those rich enough to own and run them or will we be 'shunned' for polluting while the majority adopt electric cars.

Its a worrying time for future actual owners. Will my 07' 997 4S be worth nothing or will it rocket up due to age and prestige. I don't personally care but it would be a sad day if in 2030-2040 when you had to sell up due to whatever reason and find the car worth <£5k.

I do enjoy driving my nissan leaf though

My 981 Boxster S was destroyed by a dozy taxi driver, and I had a few weeks in a rental 718 Boxster S until I found a replacement car. Sure, the 718 didn't sound as good as the 981 but its power and steering feel were much better. I still enjoyed the sound and delivery of the flat-four. In the end though I replaced my car with another 981 because that flat-six sound through PSE is intoxicating. In fact it's the best thing about the entire car. I'm not at all looking forward to the day when we all have to drive EVs. Driving is the most enjoyable activity in my life, and the sound of cars is the part I like best.

The very idea of an EV sports car fills me with despair.

it will be a great car no doubt but losing the flat 6 orchestra is like losing our sense of hearing. yes we still have sight and feel but a major part of the sensory experience will be missing

even after 6 years i still often wind the windows down or open the door when i start the car just to hear that F6 in all its glory

The elephant in the room is the question whether it last longer than just one lap...

Apparently a Tesla Model 3P can manage about three laps at maximum attack, so I'd expect similar. As well as losing the sound, we're dialling back on capability. Like the end of Concorde or the Space Shuttle.

The laps I have seen they also tend to have a problem with the battery overheating which puts the car into reduced power mode (depends on ambient temp and how hard it is being driven)

Maybe it's pushing one's lucky mentioning "heating" in the same sentence as a Porsche EV lol, but they won't have any battery/drivetrain overheating problems anyhow.

I'm dubious about an EV sports car. I totally get EVs for the daily slog but for having fun, not so sure. It's not just the sound either, which is not all that amazing in most modern cars anyhow, it's the playfulness. But maybe in fairness that's not really a Porsche trait either these days so maybe it'll work. I'm sure it'll come with stacks of chassis gizmos to make it feel agile despite its weight.

lol :-) you can now adjust the sound by a different brand/profile of tire.

s 1s 1

this 100% my plan is to buy an EV never but I believe ICE will be forced off the road by 2040 so I may forced to , it wont be a sportscar though completely and utterly pointless , dont say speed you will only be to do it for 10 miles

Current battery / charge limitations make this a very compromised car ...

Particularly when working the car hard creates heat that eats the battery capacity .... or worse.
