Track wheels - Cayman 987.2 S

I'm starting to look for a set of track wheels for my lightly modified 987.2 Cayman S. 19" to put Michelin Cup 2's on because I don't fancy the cup 2's for daily duties.

There seems to be limited options for straight fit sizes unless I'm doing a poor job of looking? Options I have seen:

• Std Porsche wheels
• OZ Leggera HLT
• Apex (China I think?)

Am I missing any obvious choices? On race cars I've previously used Compomotive and Image, both of which were ok.

Revolution CR10 might be an option, although i think they are 18”.

I’ve got a set of 19” carrera sport alloys (the same width and offset as the spyder/R wheels, slightly wider track than all other 19” options) with sport contact 7 tyres that are available from my old 987.2
They do fit my 996 but I’m looking to go back to oe sizes.

My standard 19" alloys are 8.5 and 10, are the option you are talking about 10.5 or 11 at the rear? To be honest I'm not looking at increasing tyre width much but would accept a smidge wider.

Michelin don't list cup2's in sizes below 19" on their website, 18" would get great as I'd get compo's on there There would need to be a good tyre available though and be fiarly future proof with diameter's constantly increasing.

Which 19” wheel design do you have? I thought it was only the spyder/R and the wheels pictured that were 10” rear, others are 9.5”.

One more quick question, are you competing (time trials etc) or just enjoying track days? If the latter i would get the 18” wheels i wanted and use a cheaper non cup2 tyre, i would still get the same enjoyment that way.
Otherwise, its extra transport and a set of slicks, if being the fastest is the only way to get your kicks.

Ex racer but back on track days for now, I find standard style tyres like PS4S overheat very quickly and are ultimately unsatisfying. I like slicks but I'd be looking to drive to the track and maybe sunny road runs too.

The CR10 is available in 19” in a variety of widths, maybe an option for a lighter weight wheel similar to OZ (but UK made)

You misunderstood the point.

The point was you don't need to be married to standard tyre sizes. If you look at the link they recommend several different 18 inch options. I'd say 245 40 and 275 40 18 is the one I would go for.

Race cars wont be using the OPs preferred cup2 tyre though.
Needing to drive to the circuit and have a specific tyre requirement that is only available in 19” or bigger means a very limited choice of wheels for the OP.

I just checked. The Michelin website have no cup 2 listed below 19 inch. That's surprised me. I thought they were available in 18 and even 17. I'm pretty sure they used to be so maybe something has changed.

Ok sanity has returned. Asda tyres list a couple of 17 and 18 options for cup 2. So I wasn't going completely mad. But that doesn't help the OP. The only options for 18 are 986 sizes 225 40 and 265 35. There is also 235 40 and 245 35. So if you are willing to go down to 265 35 18 rears you could use any of the others above for fronts.

Just updating this, I ended up going for 18" Revolution CR10's in the end. They were 8.5F and 10R, front were a standard offset and the rear offset specific to my request. Price was £1.3k inc VAT and delivery, lead time is 4 to 5 weeks so plenty of time to pick up a set of tyres.
