New to me 981 Cayman 2.7 - What does Sport Mode do?
Discussion
Hi All,
A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a new to me 981 Cayman 2.7 Manual to serve as my daily car as I don't feel like using the 992 GTS in that way.
I wanted to ask, what does Sport mode actually do apart from adjust the throttle map to make it more aggressive?
My car is non-Sports Chrono and does not have the PSE. However, it does have the Sports Design Tailpipes with the twin pipes and I do feel the exhaust note changes when in Sports mode a little. Does the exhaust note actually change or am I imagining it? If so, does the exhaust have a valve that opens up when Sports mode is engaged? I ask because sometimes I feel the exhaust note change more than at other times, and it's making me wonder that if there is an exhaust valve/flap, could this be getting stuck?
In addition, what other things does Sport mode do? Does it adjust the steering map for instance?
Here are a couple of pics of it:

Thanks.

Hi OP, think most of your questions are answered by the first response but the exhaust note does indeed change. The way I know is because opening the PSE in normal mode sounds different to PSE in sport mode. As the screenshot in the response above says, the cabin noise is also improved. This was one of the big complaints about the 987.2 which was refined for the 981. Car looks nice. Enjoy!

In the 718 Sport mode is sport mode regardless, chrono just gives you the clock and a different switch with the sport plus additional track mode and sports response button.

981 is quite a bit older so maybe some differences?
Thanks Johnson, this is useful information. I suspect there will be some differences between the 981 and 982(718) generation, but your info does give a good insight. 981 is quite a bit older so maybe some differences?

Thanks SV_WDC, I do notice a change in exhaust note in Sport mode, it's just that it seems more pronounced at some times than other times, strange... Might be something to do with the engine operating temps and therefore louder when car is fully up to temp perhaps. However, I'm pleasantly surprised with the car and love the intake howl above 5k rpm! I do seem to be picking up the keys to the Cayman more, even on the weekend! Haha.
It has quite a decent spec on the car:
20'' 911 Turbo design wheels (Basically the same wheels you see on most 981 GTS's)
Carrara White Metallic Paint
Two-Tone Leather interior with part leather dash
Front and Rear Parking sensors
Bi-Xenon Headlights
Auto Folding Mirrors with Puddle Lights
Preparation for mobile phone and Bluetooth audio
Sound Package Plus
Sports tailpipe (twin pipes rather than the single oval)
Seat heating
Wheel centres with full-colour Porsche crest
Universal Audio Interface
Top tinted windscreen
It has been turning some heads for sure and I'm really pleased with it. Will try and get a track day booked in. Has Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres all round and just had brand new discs, pads and fluid.

Thumbs up from me too. The only thing that could improve it for me would be some subtle Martini livery (I know I’m about 40 years behind the times
)

Haha, thanks.
Not sure my car could pull off that livery but your car looks epic!
