I’ll be collecting a 987.2 Cayman next week & one of the jobs on the list will be to upgrade the PCM 3.0.
It appears I have 4 options….??

Piggyback the control board with a Mr12Volt type of thing. Remains looking OEM but by all accounts poor resolution from an already dated unit. Not that cheap either.

Replace the current unit with aftermarket, I don’t have steering wheel controls so would need at least a physical control for the volume, these don’t seem too commonplace.

Aliexpress PCM replacement, somehow I’m not keen, some say it’s a game changer & others say it’s quirky & a little bit glitchy. Apparently “plug & play” for about £250.

Wait it out for PCCM+ for the .2 cars. This would be my preferred option but no idea when these will be available.

Anyone done either of the above & any other recommendations? CarPlay & DAB are my main considerations. (The current setup is the non-Bose version)

Cheers.

I can't comment on Porsche specifically but I've retrofitted 4 AliExpress units into other cars now including most recently into my 2007 B7 RS4 Avant.

All have been absolutely faultless and a relatively cheap joy to behold! I can't recommend them highly enough, the quality and value for money are excellent.

I did a lot of YouTube research beforehand to find the best unit for each car.

I've had a Joyeauto system fitted to my 991.1.
Resolution same as the PCM but swiping across screen isn't up to modern standards. You need to be quite deliberate and slow, but this aspect doesn't bother as I'm not constantly wanting to change apps once driving.

Isn't the resolution being the same expected? after all its not replacing the screen itself. That only makes me want to wait it out for the PCCM+ Gen 2 version.

It been 2 years now, I reckon we'll hear on the Gen 2 this year.

I put a Mr12Volt unit in my 987.2 around 18 months ago: it works just fine.

My thinking was that if/when the PCCM+ materialises then it will be wired CarPlay, rather than wireless.

I've got an Isudar board in my 991.1RS. Works very well indeed.
