I know that nobody cares and that there are way more important things in life to be arsed about . . .

but today marks the end of an era for me . . . have been lucky enough to have had some (to me) amazing cars in my life - the two stand-out machines have been my UTTERLY BONKERS & INSANE S50 Z3 ///M Roadster that I bought new in 1997 and my Spyder that I bought with just 700 miles on the clock in 2011!

When I first got the ///M, the first set of rear tyres only lasted 1800kms hahahaha I really didn't know how to take it easy - and why would you, driving such a weapon in your 20's.

After 110,000 in 2001, I rolled & killed the ///M on some standing water (walked away without a scratch) and today, after 15 years + 140,000 very happy and fast miles - the Spyder has gone to a new home!

I have loved every single mile - neither were garage queens, but I will forever remember the fun I have had while actually driving them - rather than polishing them. Overall the Spyder is faster and more capable in every single way possible than the ///M . . . but the ///M was just pure bonkers fun and it literally begged me to thrash the pants off of it wherever I went - it was such a rush! You can get a whole bike in the Spyder - but not even a golf club in the ///M lol.

Life changes - embrace the changes and move forward.

Being a 987 Spyder fan I always looked out for the occasional updates from you and admired the miles you’ve put on that Spyder..

End of an era but what’s next?

Always enjoyed hearing about you enjoying the best Porsche ever ( ok maybe one of) and an owner who actually used as intended.
So what’s the replacement?

Since I can remember I have been a petrol and wheel head - bikes, motorbikes, cars and roller speed skates . . . but life changes and things are different

Having dedicated our lives to our rescue animals when we moved house 11 years ago (cats, rabbits, donkeys and bees) our world really revolves around them and up until Jan 25 - there were only two humans - my wife and I - she has always wanted a dog, but I have never really been a dog-person. Was bitten on the face at the age of 4 while on holiday in India + Rabies Shots for 2 weeks - made me shy away from the appeal of a pooch.

My wife does everything for us - so in Dec 24 I just told her that we should get a dog - I mean how hard could it be lol - off to the local rescue centre we went and we came back with Jess - a 4 month old Boxer puppo . . . and life has never really been the same since.

Sure, we have had some trips together in the Spyder (Jess and I) and we even rebadge the Spyder too (if you look closely) - but mostly we enjoy our trips as a trio in the "other" car, which is a lot more practical and the Spyder just has not been used as much as it should be used over the last year PLUS someone made me a great offer on it - so it just make sense to move on and embrace the change!

Overall, the Spyder has been the best car I have ever owned - 100% reliable - insanely cheap to run and fast as F**K - I could get a bicycle + luggage + passenger in it - or two bikes without the roof on and no passenger lol - a 42" TV and a passenger - totally practical - it never once failed to put a smile on my face - it was driven in any weather - any conditions with just normal tyres on it too - just the perfect car for me and imho the best looking car Porsche have ever produced - so underrated. I have never been a club person, it wasn't a garage queen and I really detest and avoid car-meets - so it was always a selfish indulgence.

I still cycle - my business is making custom bicycle parts (KAPZ) and I still speed skate and maybe someday soon - another crazy petrol-powered contraption will take my fancy - but for now - its time to just enjoy life with animals!

Brilliant story, and good to see an outro @khushy. The 11 year old Labrador in my life loves a day trip, but prefers my Skoda Yeti, or sitting next to me in the Merc Vito to either of my Caymans.

I'm sure you'll find other wheels to enjoy with Jess. Congratulations on having enjoyed the Spyder so throroughly. You have set a great example!

Best thing I’ve read on here in a while, thanks for sharing and anyone needing to convince their better half that a Porsche is practical now has proof!
Enjoy your next chapter and feel free to keep us updated on how your dog’s getting on!

Great write up!

From a fellow Boxer (and Boxster) owner, 8 years old and still as daft as a puppy.
