Rear screen problem

I have a 2001 986 S which I’ve owned for ten years and SORNed for the last five, but has now been serviced and put back on the road. Drives like a dream and feels like a new car.

One problem however. It originally had the early hood with the plastic rear screen, but a previous owner replaced it so it now has the glass screen ‘facelift’ version. I’ve recently noticed that the rear screen surround is beginning to detach itself from the glass. The hood still works fine but I now live in fear that one day it may go down and refuse to come back up – or even worse, get stuck half way!

I have now had several garages and glass specialists tell me they can’t help. Any suggestions before I get out the Araldite and bodge it myself?

(My compromise will be to keep the hood down all the time, and fit a cover when necessary, as I don’t have a garage.)

In truth your only viable options are either bodge it yourself, or buy a used hood. The rest of the hood looks tired so I'd start looking ....

As I'm only a poor pensioner I'd have to save up for a new roof - if I fix it myself as a temporary option, any ideas how to go about it?

There's a company called Stormsure who make black flexible adhesive for soft tops, might be worth getting a tube of that to fix it.

A good number of trimmers who restore classic car roofs and the like should be able to tackle this too i'd have thought.

Thank M138, have ordered a repair kit from Stormsure so we'll have to see how that goes.
