I'm looking to buy an 03 / 04 Porsche cayenne , I'm undecided whether to just go for the 4.5 or the turbo model , is there a lot of difference between the 2 cars in specification etc , mpg is not a big problem as I plan on getting it LPG converted , also looking for something that's a bit different , ie magnum body kit and extra's fitted

I had a 2005 range rover sport 2.7 diesel last year but was not overly happy with it , how do these cars both compare

Obviously turbo is faster and more will have better specs. I had 4.5 and would have been just as happy with the V6 as the car is so damn big and heavy you don't want to hoon as it is not that type of car. I never felt short changed as mine had full options, it was also the most reliable car I have ever owned. It depreciated a fair bit compared to purchase price but was cheap in first place. I would base purchase on history, condition and spec rather than engine model.

Get the Turbo. None of the potential hassle of bore scoring and a proper road-train. You might get 1 or 2mpg more from the N/A, but it's not worth it.

2004 4.5S, at 112,000 miles I've had to have the prop shaft replaced, full set of discs and pads and the dreaded water pipes replaced, about £2.5k including a service at a local garage but all parts supplied by Porsche . That's the first big expense I've had , just routine servicing up til then. Now on 118,000 miles.
Find one with air suspension, it really does make a huge difference. A lovely old thing to ride around in.

As an aside, I was offered £4.5k for mine, huge spec ex demo car, against a new car. I'll be keeping it an using it as a van/dog carrier !

Really? The 4.5 V8 has bore scoring issues? Ive never heard of this, where did you get it from?

05 Turbo model is the one I went for, has all the toys and mpg is very similar to the S model. Mine has been very reliable and handles anything I throw at it.

I've seen a 2003 turbo that's looks like it's been looked after , was the 04 and 05 better spec than this one

Take a look on rennlist (sticky at top of cayenne sub forum) as it gives you a good review on the differences between the model years. Seems to be lots of gremlins sorted at model year refreshes, many electrical.

I live/work in Hong Kong and I brought a 2005 (2006 model) Cayenne S in from UK early this year. It had 50,000 miles on the clock/2 owners and all services and receipts etc. including the original bill of sale. It needed 8 plugs and ignition coils to solve a small misfire but 3,000 miles later and it is still running like a dream and not used a drop of oil.
It is on steel suspension and low profiles but still comfortable enough on the highway into town every day.
Performance is way enough, as others said you tend to cruise around rather than race but it has a great sound and plenty of grunt when needed. I have had land cruiser/X5/Q5 and SQ5 but for smiles per mile and sense of occasion this outdoes them all.



Interior is amazing for an eight plus year old car



Highly recommended go for it.
By the way my brother has a 2003 RR and it nearly bankrupt him, never again and in my opinion no comparison.
