Cayenne e hybrid buying
Discussion
We are looking to buy a cayenne e hybrid, to be a daily driver. Looked at a few 22 model variants and also drove a 24 model year. Both seemed very nice. I’m asking for any owners real world experience of this model, reliability and common foibles if any?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

I've had a MY24 (latest version) Cayenne E-Hybrid for 10 months and 10,000 miles.
Car has been faultless and a pleasure to own. The Air Suspension is must have option in my opinion. 44 to 50+ real world electric miles range.
For me it's the best all round family car i've owned and with over 50% electric miles covered (you can check in the app), very economical to run too

I had a Nov 22 Reg V6 Hybrid for 6 months, drove fine with Air Suspension and PDCC option, 100% reliable. Only downside when the battery is gone you can really feel the weight, also E range not brilliant in summer with nothing on it would see 22-23 e miles under normal driving, winter 15. Also when you put it in re gen mode MPG would drop to low 20s on a run under this around town. Have driven the current one and it’s vastly improved in this area, same for suspension steering, dash layout etc.

We ran a 2021 model for 3 years and 50,000km and it was a great family load carrier. Used a lot to ferry mountain bikes about and also for the annual ski trips.
The battery on the earlier (2019-2023) 3rd gen models is a bit weak though but we didn’t switch to a 2024 one because the boot space is (IMHO) seriously compromised by the bigger battery.
No complaints, lovely ride on the air suspension. Would regard the real wheel steering as an essential option as it’s a long car. We only got rid of it because it was something of an unlucky car (for us, nothing to do with the car as such) and was hit a few times by people who couldn’t apparently see the gigantic blue thing and had a nasty accident when Porsche only put 3 wheels on the car properly at the winter wheel swap and the 4th fell off……
Replaced by a taycan turbo (for fun days and shorter trips) and an x5 hybrid as the load carrier/family wagon.

Just put a deposit down on a 10,000 mile ‘22 plate e-hybrid after test drive today, after a disastrous 7 weeks with a Defender that’s heading back to its manufacturer (2 breakdowns in that time…).
My 5th Porsche but first SUV. Just love the build quality it really is so good.
Appreciate the electric range is more limited, but £13k+ more for the facelift model makes no sense (not PCP buyer). Our journeys are mostly under 20 miles or much longer when we can cruise on Adaptive so the ehybrid makes sense for our use.
Gotta say after 8 months out so good to be back with Porsche, albeit GT4 to Cayenne - I’m getting older!
Really is a great brand, superb dealer experience today when we hadn’t even paid a deposit and they’d brought it in, dried her off and put a “Welcome Mrs xxxxx” placard up, just makes a difference it really does.
If anyone out there is reading this and thinking about buying a Porsche as a first timer, just do it, use an OPC, pay a bit more but get a properly sorted car (ours comes with 31 months of warranty) you really shouldn’t regret it.

Cayenne is a much better drivers car and the x5 is a superior hybrid cruiser. The bmw actually handles surprisingly well but has absolutely no feel to the steering and adequate but not brilliant brakes. Cayenne had better turning sircle but that because ours had rear wheel steering.
We swapped our Cayenne hybrid for a Taycan and then picked up an X5 50e for the family load hauler. The cayenne was certainly more sporty but the bmw has a better infotainment system and our son prefers the rear seats in the bmw.
Both have an electric tow hook which was important bur the cayenne has a higher towing capacity (irrelevant for our bike carrier).
Just don’t ger a Mercedes GLE, they are rubbish. Poor build quality and generally poor dynamics compared with the other two. All IMHO of course.

Thanks just been to the local BMW dealer, going to test drive X5 50e and X7 4.0d on Thursday and the Cayenne e Hybrid on Friday. X7 is a proper barge and ugly but the interior space is phenomenal. I love how our Cayenne drives and if that was the only consideration I don’t think it’s close. However, it’s a family car and with two older teenage kids things like rear seats/space do make a difference. I/we do a lot of miles so comfort is important ! Sat in an X5 today I was impressed with the interior finish…Comfort Seats were definitely well named !
No danger of getting a GLE….went to the MB dealer in Milton Keynes on Saturday who were very busy and had no one available so I left my details. Clearly still very busy and nobody has followed up !
From my archives: 2018 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid

This is a big car to drive around in tight city centers.

It is doable, but it does hang out here and there.

Inside it's typical Porsche period comfy. Seats are excellent and transmission gets my vote.

Yeah, well. It does go electric, but only about 45 kms.

Benchmark rear seats: bravo.

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago 24 plate. Some kind soul had put £40k of options on it…plus PPF. Came with roof bars, a set of winter tyres, winter mats and a two boot liners. The kind of person you want to buy a car from.
Very happy it’s on 21’s…quite a bit of sidewall for a modern SUV. Much cheaper than the 22’s and that little bit more compliance. Black wheels wouldn’t be my choice but it’s got the “shiny black plastic” box ticked so they go okay.
Really pleased with it, very comfortable and based on mileage so far comfortably halving the fuel bills of my old S Diesel. Which I need to put up for sale !

Ha snap. Here is my 23 plate very late Gen3. Which another kind soul spunked £40K on options on. Mind boggling amount considering it hasn’t got air or an upgraded sound system. It listed at over £100K!!!Very happy it s on 21 s quite a bit of sidewall for a modern SUV. Much cheaper than the 22 s and that little bit more compliance. I’ve had it just over a year and it’s shaping up very well. The electric range is about 25 miles but only if you drive like a nun. Which to be fair is OK for the majority of our local trips, but not our mileage. That gets racked up on longer trips and towing duties. It can match a diesel for economy when towing but only if the battery is charged. Once it runs out of electrons it gets very thirsty, think 15MPG fully loaded at decent speed.
Without the trailer on longer trips, again at decent speed it is around 30MPG or a bit more.
It’s actually a lovely thing in a comfy, soothing kind of way, with the added benefit of no nanny state electronics
I particularly like the push to pass button
I am planning on running it into the ground, hopefully at least another 15 years of solid family use.

I’ve been pondering swapping my Cayenne S for something leccy, bought an I3S for running around locally and was going to keep the Cayenne for continent crossing (or at least trips to England!), but I was so impressed with the I3 that I test drove a IX, and it’s really impressive, so now considering replacing both the Cayenne and I3 with an IX.Very happy it s on 21 s quite a bit of sidewall for a modern SUV. Really pleased with it.
Happily part of the £40k went on the Burmeister which is absolutely superb. We had it on a 2018 Macan, nowhere near as good as it is in the Cayenne.
