I see these are around £60k for a 3 year old example with 20-30k miles as a used approved car. They look good value for money but a bit of reading on here shows there isn't much love for the e-hybrid.

Is there a particular reason ?

I'm toying with adding one and maybe even moving on the G90 M5 if this ticks the boxes.

I looked at one quite seriously and had a day long test drive. It was, well, nice ….

I told the dealer I was not bonding with it so he sent me out in a V8S - it was like a lightbulb moment.

I ended up buying a GTS and love it. Every time I start it I smile - the engine sounds awesome - although the neighbours might disagree! In the hybrid, I started it and it went “beep”.

The hybrid is undoubtedly cheaper to run and is a very nice car - but for me, I wanted something that sounded and drove like a Porsche and that meant a V8.

I’ve bought one recently, a well specified 23 plate from Silverstone OPC. For me it’s a long term prospect, it’s replaced a V8 diesel ML Mercedes that we have run for over 15 years. We use it for long trips and towing duties, the all important 3500kg towing limit being a non negotiable for the new car. I would have preferred another V8 diesel but I felt that it was necessary to accept that the world has moved on. The torque fill of the electric motor in the hybrid does work well for towing. Lets face it an SUV of any spec is never going to hold a candle to a true sports / super car in terms of driving experience and engagement so there is no point in going mad and over specifying the SUV. Far better to spend the extra on something more engaging to drive when the occasion is right. With that in mind the Cayenne is a lovely car, very quiet and comfortable, good to drive, everything works and as a 23 plate I can still permanently turn off all the nanny features. It’s quick enough in sport plus mode to cover the ground but that’s not really its forte. Hopefully it will provide decent reliable service for the next 15 years or so by which time I will probably chuck it away.
It’s a bit like a Barbour jacket or a Lechameau Wellington boot. Discreetly doing a good job.

I have just bought a very low mileage fully loaded 2 year old V6, but not the hybrid.

Having had a new hybrid for a week or so recently when my (now gone) Taycan GTS was being fixed (again) I found it a lovely place to be, the additional power from the electric motors makes a difference against the standard V6 however the range is just not there. Also having studied the used portal for some weeks/months I was struggling to find a current model car available within my budget with the options I wanted to have, I had 70k to spend and they’re just not there at the moment. I could have had the previous Cayenne Hyrbid or S within my budget but I didn’t want one, I wanted the current model.

In my experience the last Cayenne hybrid gave 20 miles at best and the new one 30 miles at best and I just don’t think it’s worth it currently and to be fair, the V6 is no slouch and picks up speed very, very well and it does the job very nicely from where I’m sitting. Sure, it might not be as entertaining aurally as the V8 however again the age and spec I wanted ruled the V8 ‘S’ out of the list of cars available by a long way!

What I will say is IMO the current Cayenne in whatever spec you get is a great car, fantastic to drive and the best of its kind on the road.
