So over the past week I watched the Singer videos and started reading up about them, 911s are what got me into cars and I still have the first supercar books that my parents bought me which made me love Porsches more than their Ferrari counterparts tongue out

Having just finished watching Magnus Walker's Urban Outlaw I'm convinced again that I need one in my life. From a quick scan of the classifieds I've found this one, anyone know it? Any comments on it - the price, the seller? I don't really know much about the 70s Porsches, the aforementioned books were of the 80s era of 911s and I've never looked further back, until now...

Different style to the Walker-Outlaw type, but I quite like this...

2.7s was the 911 low spot - though almost certainly rebuilt and fixed by now. SC much better car though.

Could you expand a bit more on this please? Were the engines not reliable?

I want something that I can tinker with myself and slowly modify as I see fit, rather than a pre-built creation so what would the best base car be for that?

There's mixed views on the 2.7 CIS engine from an enjoyability point of view. Some report horrible performance and drivability, some like it. It was the first generation of CIS and was following the brilliant 2.4S and 2.7RS engines.

On tinkering, there's always tinkering to be done, but I find it hard to tinker with an original early car. The CIS doesn't really avail itself of tinkering.

The RS rep I linked to or similar hot rod might be better for tinkering.

Lots of info on Google, but basically they were not that powerful and unreliable. SC, on the other hand, is one of the most reliable engines Porsche made. That said, the pulled head studs etc that plagued the 2.7 often developed within a few years of manufacture so most, if not all, will have been rebuilt and upgraded. I would stick with SC though.
