I bumped into a lovely 912, which appears to be owned by the mayor of Veenendaal

Superb looking 912 this. Loving THAT colour.

The 912 was the entry-level Porsche built between 1965 and 1969. It carried a flat four 1.6 and 2 litre.

Some consider this a poor alternative to the period 911 and of course that's b

lovely colour burgundy 6808 (the same as my 1969 911) it took a while for it to grow on me but love it now.
as for the 912, they are a great car. don't forget there's a lot less weight in the back too with the 356 engine in there so better balanced

I miss mine. A late '65 build car. A very different driving experience to my 3.2 911; lighter, more nimble, more revvy, but felt more delicate. I can see why they sold so well, very modern compared to its contemporaries, and so pretty. Gearbox was significantly nicer to use than I'd feared, but initially didn't realise it had a dog-leg first - fool

Would be interested to have a drive of a 356 to compare.
Let's drop some 356 then:

356B, at the start of the KNAC-rally.

From 1959 on the B model was produced to a staggering 31.000 units. All came with VW flat fours upgraded to performance specs.

What a beauty. I bet Johnny Tipler loves these.
And I asked him: "I think it has more character than a 912, though a 912 invites more energetic driving."
