Looking for a 1973 911, S, T or E?
Discussion
I'm looking to buy a 1973 (my birth year) 911. The Carrera RS are obviously out of my price range unfortunately! But wanted advice on what was the best version to buy?
I would ideally like it in Tangerine as well (not making this shopping list too hard!!) where is the best place to look for such a car and which model should I be trying to buy?
Also when looking at 1973 Porsches, what are the pitfalls I should be looking at?
Thanks!

Many many variables but price is a determining factor with a 2.4S is excellent condition with good history fetching up to circa 175k. Practically, the experience between the models is not that great especially on the public road. But Geneve is right- there's only one place to have all your questions answered.
If you are limiting your search to 1973 your search could be quite difficult. Huge range of prices depending upon model and provenance. If you want an early 911 (rather than just a 911 from 1973) best to do some research on the various models and current values.
DDK a good place to start.

The S is the most desirable spec and the most expensive by far. The E is almost as good, especially one with Recaro seats fitted, but the T is definitely a step down although far more affordable and can be upgraded relatively easily, particularly if you don't mind replica parts. If I was buying one now I would look for a well sorted T and look to upgrade the engine, seats etc. The standard E/T seats are not very nice, especially compared to the Recaros in the S, which really make the interior stand out. If you have the money, an E would be a good choice too. The S is silly money now I'm afraid.

With the budget you have in mind a 1973 2.4E would be the one to go for. Also when looking at 1973 Porsches, what are the pitfalls I should be looking at?

The biggest pitfall is rust.
Before you commit to buy anything get it inspected by someone that knows these early cars inside out or you'll blow your busget again putting it all right.
Two great website forums for these cars are
www.ddk-online.com
www.early911sregistry.org
Good luck and enjoy they are wonderful cars
