Could you not get the lights machine polished?

Porsche only AFAIK. A while ago they were completely out of stock so at least they're available now. Although expensive they're pretty much in line with the price of light units for newer 911s and boxsters. With 10% PCGB discount I got the side ones for about £170 each and the middle reflector for about £260 IIRC.

p.s. don't bother with any used ones on ebay....they'll usually be much worse when they arrive than they looked in the photos.

Left and right can be replaced for sensible money from Design911 (PCGB 5% discount if you are a member).

They can be picked up on eBay in good condition, just need to have your eyes open on what you are buying tho I guess that's the same for most things.

The middle reflector/light unit lenses always seem like big money.

Once all replaced tho' will imo transform the look of the car.

Running a pre impact car and most every thing avalible i honestly thought 964 wouldnt be a prob for spares or is it just rear lights that were not avalible ?

i recently purchased some new ones however slightly disappointed with the colour as its still quite dull (common complaint it seems). If yours have hairline cracks like mine did then you don't have much of a choice, otherwise renlist forums show a few people spraying a tint over them and/or polishing.

Also try your local OPC, you may find them quite competitive once you ask them for a discount.

I agree, I replaced my rears, the OPC are competitive, just be cheeky and ask for a discount. It makes a huge difference to the car and they are very straightforward to change.

The centre reflector has gone up hugely in price in the last 6 or 7 years...just done the same exercise and had to bite the bullet and cough up

I tinted my originals which actually were not to bad, but still ended up buying a new set - about 10 years ago. Its a shame you cannot take them apart and clean/tint the inside of the lens. The alternative to the rear center light is to use a section like of the Ruf CTR. No idea however if they are still available or how much. They do look nice though and can be colour coded.

By chance I found that if you spray a couple of coats of dash shine on them it transforms the way they look. I know its not a fix but you will be amazed at how much it improves them

You can always get some vinyl covers for them, like a clear wrap - brings out the colour nicely, though you may not pass MOT as they can make the indicators seem a little pink. Quite a few of the chaps on Rennlist have this

+1 on the wrap. I bought red film tint stuff off chinesebay for about 7 quid - an evening in front of the telly and a heat gun, Bob's your uncle. Buy enough to fail the first couple of times! Getting the edges right takes a couple of goes. It just peels off if you go wrong...

It brings out the red (makes the taillights look quite juicy!) and covers the cracks, a great compromise instead of buying new. Mine has passed 2 MOT's, and I don't care that my reversing lights are pink. biggrin I also bought brighter taillight bulbs to shine through the film more betterly.

Be careful. A guy in my street (London SW11)has just had the rear lights stolen from his 964. This is the second time it's happened.

Well thats a bit out of order the only good news for me is that if somebody nicked them at the side of the road then they shouldnt be that difficult to fit!!
