Hello and thanks in advance for the replys.

I have a number plate on retention that I would like to sell. Any recommendations for the best place to advertise?

Mention it on the "Front engine Porsche" forum?

PCGB?

An auction house such as Brooklands Historics or Coys ?

FWIW, I tried PH a couple of months back re my plate (Y1 TAX) but got no interest. I haven't really followed up on it but I guess ebay or specialist car club mags etc. seem the obvious options, perhaps other fellow PHers have some better ideas.

I am in the same boat.
Years ago, before the DVLA started auctioning off everything, the private plate was rare and reasonable valuable, with even the royals lending gravitas to owning a cherished plate.
Now every chav in Basildon has a £250 plate, usually spelling something like D 80LKS, W10CKD or B40 BOY with carefully placed black bolts.
The old bill did crack down for a while, but with the amount of miss represented plates I see, they must be busy fighting real crime else where?
Have sat on a plate for a while now I think I have grown out of, mainly because I now wear a beard and polar necks and can't watch TOWIE (which would be a good plate!)
It is an original 1910 plate, 5EXE which Elite registrations offered £2,400 for when I contacted them, real sharp sale team!!
A LOT of money was paid back in the '80's for it so stuck in The Sunday Times for a few weeks to only end up with canvassers, and have now put it up on P/H plates for £100K as a tester, but what are these really worth, and where can you place them.
Dealers just want to pay nothing and put them up for silly money.
Can they be thrown into the DVLA auction list, does anyone know?

Are there not dealers who will sell on consignment/commission?

I don't know any.
Elite used to send a small magazine to the family home when I was a kid, with pictures on the front of celebs that had bought from them like Jimmy Tarbrush and Paul Daniels, that's how I know of them.
I have no experience with any others, and after Elite's (who I thought were a reputable company) trying to have my pants down, I thought a private sale was the only option?

Sadly, I think Ebay is the place for selling everything these days.

The whole world is looking for a bargain.

I've had a couple of plates on with people like Elite and have nothing good to say about them. It's all a con.

Sure this plate was once on my old red 964 targa, it was recorded in the service paperwork

Wow!
Don't tell me, red with cream leather, red piping 1990 on the G plate.
What happened to it, do you still have her?
