Thought I'd dip my oil tank on my 3.2 to check the oil condition.

It was a nice golden colour. My car's in an underground car park and the light is not all that. Being stupid I was using my left hand and standing on the O/S of the car. I'm right handed. Fail.

I thought the dipstick was in the guide tube but it was not and I heard the clink as it dropped! WTF I thought!!

I got my torch and saw it sitting there. Out came a coat hanger and as I nudged it, it fell into the tank!!

But I could just still see the handle. So working like neural surgeon I managed to get the hooped top part and bring it up. But it had truned 180 degs and was not coming up through the gap it went down through!

After 5 mins I somehow managed to twist it 180 on the coat hanger and got the bleeder on terra firma!

Note to myself. Be MUCH more careful!

Question. Can a dipstick fall into the tank and get lost thus forcing a tank removal or will the dipstick always sit where it can be fished out if you have enough patience?

I don't think it's unusual to find a couple in there if you ever need to remove the tank wink

Not really the sort of skills needed in neurosurgery, more laparoscopic and gynae (paint the hall through the letter box) smile

Whilst the pragmatic use a magnet on a string (or one of those telescopic things).

Been there done it.

When the tank was taken out later because of a rust issue, they found mine and three others in there.

Porsche must make a mint on replacements.
