I would like to know how big a job it is to remove an immobiliser from my 993. The image shows my key fob and immobiliser fob from my 993. is it possible to remove the plug in part, it is a pain to use and has the feeling that it will let me down one day. I would like to keep the remote central locking.
is this a DIY job or if not does anyone know of any good companies in the Colchester area?

Thanks

Robin

Do you need to use the spade? I thought the PA1000 or 2000 included the remote which did both jobs - only ste cars like mine have the PA100 system.

In any case, the technology is 20 years old and when mine even looks like failing I'll get everything removed and something more modern put in.

yes, my last 993 had a PA2000 that unlocked the car and did the immobiliser. I was surprised to find this ancient arrangement on this car, it is all genuine original Porsche. i presume that it is UK dealer fit Hamilton and Palmer, but would suit a 1970s vauxhall better than a 1994 porsche. are they easy to remove?

I guess it's like Tore's remote locking kit - i.e. something has been added retrospectively onto the PA100.

So it's still the basic H&P that immobilises the car, so to bypass the spade you'll have to get that all removed and replaced by a more modern (Thatcham approved) system, and that new system would include remote locking of course.

I would find a good local recommended alarm specialist (nothing to do with Porsche) and get a new one fitted.

If it's a keeper - if not, changing that 20 year old spade will devalue the car by millions.

I suppose you could get H&P to retrofit a PA2000.

A few hundred quid to swop a 20 year-old system for another 20 year-old system?

I am not so worried about originality as you will see below, more interested in being able to start the thing.

Its under the passenger seat. My sunroof drain holes detached (CHECK YOURS) and were pouring water into the rear of the car.

After a 400 mile downpour, the first I knew about it was the rear mats floating around the footwell.
Basically the immobiliser unit sits on the floor and it got soaked and so was kaput.

Rang the AA, they cut it out. Took about 40 minutes, including disconnecting from the ignition.
Amazingly the AA had a full write up about removing it on their in-van PC. So over the years it must have happened alot.

He left my slot key in situ for that 'original look'.

If memory serves its under the ECU. Just remove the four screws holding the ECU plate, lift away and it should be there. smile

My 993 is sooooo old, that it came with the Immobiliser and the alarm is armed locking the doors by hand. (The first 993s didnt have remote central locking).

My very basic OE alarm still works after disconnecting the original Immobiliser.

I'd assume yours would also, as that would be part of the alarm and is separate.

You need to do a search for 'POPE' on here. He is the all knowing on 993 alarms. He used to install them when the cars were new at the OPC. smile
