A bit of an experiment
Discussion
This Porsche thing is a bit odd isn't it....
After owning 5 Porsches including a 993 C4S with a 450 bhp twin turbo conversion and a GT3, I sold my backdate 1974 Carrera in March and swapped into an F430, thinking I'd done the 'Porsche thing' enough....
Seems not
So, not wanting to move the F430 on (it is a fantastic piece of kit) I got thinking yesterday about how I could own another slice of Pork and as usual, some 'man maths' was required.
I arrived at the conclusion if I could find a reasonable good quality 993, I could use it as a daily driver and not actually lose much (if any) money over the course of a year....
Not being the sort of chap to dwell on a decision, I've bought a 993 Targa, Schwartz Black, manual, grey leather, fsh, tip-top condition
Plan is to keep it for a year (or two) and use this for work.
Coming out of a 2012 Audi TTRS with all the mod cons, it'll be an interesting swap....I'm hoping to fit a 'G Pipe' for a bit of added aural delight (can this be done on a 993?) and possibly lower it a few mm.
So, we will see how this goes, it's sort of an experiment, depreciation should be low, or negligible... slightly offset by a bit more servicing and tax cost.
Wish me luck!

Martin....what are you like
It'll be good to get together soon, which one will you bring? Should hopefully be back in Porsche fold in 4 weeks. Not sure if Haywood and Scott do a bespoke exhaust but the one they did for my GT3 sounded awesome, up with Cameron at the mo.
Photos please. By the way just bought tickets for Revival for the Friday, fancy it?
Just checked out website, looks really nice

Exhaust upgrade suggestions welcome, I've asked them to G pipe it but they're not sure if it can be done on a 993.
Also, would like to drop it a tiny smidge so will also ask JZM what the options are.

You sure you want to go lower with her? As soon as I saw the pics I thought she look a great height and to me at least looks lower than standard already.
Picked the Targa up yesterday, had a 100 mile drive back home in the sunshine, roof open, engine howling away
The car drives beautifully, the engine pulls strongly, suspension is spot on so really happy so far.

Definitely looking to do something with the exhaust, would like some more rumble and a bit more 'throat' to the sound.
Are RSR's the way to go?

Worth buying the proper Motorsound air box IMO. This was a factory option. I quite like the chrome inlet. You can just see it through the grill in the engine lid. The main change in noise is discernible inside the car and only during wide open throttle. It's not a major change, but once you have heard it you will not want to do without it. As posted above, just unclip the old one and clip in the new one.
The RSR exhaust boxes are available on an exchange basis from www.carnewal.com. They are not difficult to fit. The only complication likely to arise is that the old couplings and nuts and bolts will be corroded and will need to be cut off. Just plan on grinding or using a dremel tool and replace with nice new fasteners. Any competent garage should be able to do it for you. I could do the job in 30 minutes each side if I had access to a ramp (despite being a useless 993 owner
).
Have fun.

I would also endorse the combination of RSRs and the Porsche Motorsound airbox - works very nicely with the Varioram engine.
Assuming your car still has its original boxes, then you should take the opportunity to fit the new RSRs (from Gert at Carnewal), with new gaskets, bolts and heat shields, which he can supply.
You can get the Motorsound box here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Brand-New-PORSCH...
