Considering buying a 993 with a view to being a long term keeper.
I really like the GT2 body and have seen some lovely examples of 993's that have had conversions to look as such.
Now, while I'm aware that this may not be to every Porsche purist's taste, I'm seeking advice as to what is the best platform to build upon to achieve this look. From what I have read so far it seems the original car would need to be a 2S?
Any advice would be appreciated. Anyone else been involved in a similar project?
Thanks!

You want a turbo bodied car to build a 993 GT2 replica.

Have a look at Harry's Garage

So a 993 turbo, C2S or C4S. But they are lovely cars so it'll be eye wateringly expensive and you'd wreck the base car as you cut the wings adding the GT2 arches.

Speak to Paul Mclean at GT Classics. He probably knows more about GT2's than anyone else. Tony Liitlejohn of GTR Motorsport is the man for the build.

You can 'quite easily' make a widebodied car from a NB - the underpinnings are the same.

Differences are just the rear wings (and sills and PU and PU supports and wing support plates..... and a few other bits) so if you can find any NB donor it would still be significantly cheaper than any factory WB starting point.

This sounds like the logical answer....save yourself £30k+ to start with! You are ripping it apart anyway!

Fair point, cheaper and easier to find a base car.

It also depends on whether you want a replica (something that looks like a GT2) or a recreation (an accurate nut and bolt copy of a Gt2). With prices of GT2's in the stratospheric, a recreation may be viable but it wont be cheap

A set of the correct wheels will surely cost a kings ransom?

If you intended to use the car rather than just look at it correct wheels are a no go as they break rather easily, the Mg content makes them very fragile, I broke 3 wheels in street driving before turning to BBS E88s (Ali version) which can be bought in correct offset and IMO are very acceptable on any 3GT2 or rep since the factory fitted them for any track work.

Thanks for all of the comments folks. Interesting reading.
80sMatchbox - that's uncanny, I have that exact photo saved on my phone from a while back after I saw it advertised!
I love the shape of the arches.
And fair points about the 'donor' car. Im also aware that it's not going to be cheap. All depends on being able to find a decent base car on which to begin.
Thanks again chaps and happy Christmas!
