Just wondering if anybody on here knows anything about this car?

I would only buy a Cat C or D if the damage and rebuild was a fully photoed and documented, otherwise it's guess work as to it's quality unless you take the car apart, jig & measure it etc, etc.
Also engine rebuild and clock change at the same time, why?, all adds to the uncertainty, think its a walk away job, another will materialize.

Not targas. I wouldn't 'get used to it'. Ask the trade for a bid on your 166k mile 3.2 targa....in fact ask them for a strong bid on any impact bumper car right now...But, he is right about the nasty plate. And about the values of SCs. Don't like the look of the eBay red Targa - isn't there a saying -"there's no such thing as a cheap 911".But, at the other end of the market, I thought interest in late, low mileage, I.B. Coupes was quite strong at the moment - judging by the classifieds?

Are they selling though? And yes, there's no such thing as a cheap 911. I looked at 4 last week. It's amazing what a coat of paint can hide, especially at the base of the sills where slam panel joins....in the case of all 4, the crease where slam panel meets rear wing had disappeared under the filler applied when the rot was 'removed'But, at the other end of the market, I thought interest in late, low mileage, I.B. Coupes was quite strong at the moment - judging by the classifieds?
we know the air cooled world is now mad, but 20K for a car that was worth £6K 10 years ago...anyone interested should add another £5/6K to their budget and buy a better car...I see loads of air cooled cars that are not selling, advertised for many months on end....might be worth talking to some of the vendors and see if they are fed up of looking at their car and open to a sensible offer...

No such thing as bullet-proof. Old 911 is likely to be rusty, have a wheezy old engine, have a gearbox that won't select gears, shockers that are shot, suspension that flops around all over the place...need I go on?Just buy on condition.
So mine's on its original untouched engine with 130k mile, recently Dyno'ed by Wayne and produced 254bhp and Gearbox (G50) is slick - and mines not the exception.
So "generally" and if "well maintained" I would categories them as bullet proof. Like most things if abused then its longevity and quality will suffer.
As for rust, I've had both kidney bowls done as soon as I saw it coming through, Have also fitted wheel liners for added protection.

Beaky has your car had replacement head studs? That's the Achilles heel of these aircooled engines. I've not come across a single car with over 100k on the clock that hasn't had, or needed, head studs.
A simple leakdown test reveals these but they run with broken studs, so it's not easy to detect unless you've driven enough to know when an engine is down on power compared with a car with a healthy engine.

No idea, but my Indie services and inspects it each year and so far not mentioned it. That said I am planning a full engine refresh, at 130K the value guides must be close to their life expectancy. So probably go to 3.4, 964 Cam's ARP studs etc.
