Are there any known issues when the headlight washers don't work?

I have checked the power supply to the pump (with the headlights on) and there is nothing, the fuse is fine. The windscreen washers also work fine.

Not sure what to check next apart from the rely.

Regards Chris

It's a Porsche ........ So I have to disagree, they should work even if you don't use them smile

OP. They are blocked probs through lack of use at the nozzle end. Push the stick a good few bursts every now and then for 30 seconds or so and this generally clears them. It may take time but eventually they usually clear.

Just remember you need your headlights on for them to work biggrin

The pump can be blocked.
Remove the left side headlight to gain access.
Pull out the pump and check if the shaft spins freely.

I've pulled the plug off the top of the pump and put a test lamp on the terminals and when I pull the stick there's no power.

Is there a common electrical failure?

Are you using them correctly? You need headlights on and push the stalk away from you IIRC. It's not intuitive. I was convinced mine were not working when I first got my car.

I know you've stated previously pushing and pulling, but you've stated above that you pulled the stick when testing rather than pushed, or is that just a typo?

I did pull the stick, not realising that pushing it operated the headlight washers but even pushing it doesn't work.

The great thing for me is that every time I post a question I learn something, I may not solve my initial problem but I I learn a little more about these wonderful classics.

Thanks to everyone for this continual education.

On further investigation I have removed the rely and there is power in from ignition, power in when the headlights are on and power in when the stalk is "pushed". So it's getting power as required.

The rely doesn't click, when it's in but should it?

I don't want to spend £170 on a new one and not be sure it will cure the problem, I think a trip to my local specialist may be the answer.

I am sure a fellow owner will let you try their relay. Where are you?

I'm in Doncaster but going to Cars in the Park at Newby Hall this Sunday, so may be able to tap up a fellow show goer.

The relay is a common failure point...

Ha ha ha the pump is now leaking!!!!

Wish I hadn't bothered, I just hate things missing or not working.

To be honest I think they should work from a legal position as I have fitted HID head lights.

The MOT manual says something along the lines of "Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted." A reason for failure is "headlamp levelling or cleaning device inoperative or otherwise obviously defective." The irony is that if you don't have a washing or levelling system on your HID equipped car it won't fail but if you have one and it doesn't work then it will fail.
