post about driving cars - no values involved
Discussion
I went on one of my son's rugby tour this weekend - to one of my favorite places - Dorset, Isle of Purbeck.
I had to drive on friday evening and meet them there due to work commitments.... so I took the 993.
Instead of following the M27 onto the A31 through Ringwood, which is always too busy to enjoy, from Southampton I headed north to Salisbury on the A36 - a road that has been changed for the worse (with inappropriate speed limits) over the years since I first did it, but it has some good sections and a fantastic view of Salisbury from the hills.
But..... if you are ever looking for a good drive near Salisbury, take the A354 south, eventually dive off to Bere Regis and then go right onto Sugar Hill down to Wareham (visit Bovington Tank museum if you need an excuse) - the roads are brilliant and varied; sweeping but with overtaking opportunities, and breathtaking views on almost every turn.
On Sugar Hill I found myself 'following' a very old car, I think it was either a Rover P5 or a four-door Jag (there was a modern Golf GTI inbetween us) and he was obviously a local, and braver than I would be in such a car (unless he's uprated the brakes) and going seriously fast - I think I saw the car in Corfe later - hello if you're a PHer - nice driving.
I was enjoying myself too much to take many photographs.
This is a view of Poole from Purbeck on the B3351, a simple brilliant almost Alpine-style of road, especially when completely empty as it was at 6:30 on friday evening - I stopped this morning on the way out to take a few awful photos as I only had a zoom lens.
Forget values and get out there...

I had great fun in the GT3 on a track day at Oulton a couple of weeks ago, 200 miles up from London the night before, 170'ish miles on track in the sunshine, then the long drive home on the Saturday evening with the nice bonus of surreally fast just-keeping-up-with-everyone-else on the motorways almost all the way to the M25.
This weekend, strapped in the kids' seats in the back and enjoyed a trip 4-up with the little'uns to the countryside, with National Trust sticker in the windscreen for parking. All went well until the planned afternoon nap for the smallest chap on the drive home - a few bits of accelerative fun in the beautiful Surrey hills got his juices going so he didn't quite get to sleep, and the resulting meltdowns later in the day were something to behold.... Guess I asked for it.
Folding buckets FTW.

Love that road. Last drive was in my vantage with my late wife before she went ( brain tumour). Lunch at sandbanks hotel. A drive to remember. 4 yrs ago this summer.
I'm both sorry to hear of your loss, and happy that you have such a positive memory shared with your wife.I met a fellow PHer a week or so back and I went out on one of my favourite road routes near me. I am cautious with a "new" car and like to learn a little more about it each time I drive it. What becomes apparent pretty quickly is that its capabilities live beyond the horizon of my capabilities (and nerves). Swooping corners or sharp ninety degree bends are devoured with relish and it urges you to push a little further. You seek the back roads instead of the quicker A roads.
It is an incredible piece of automotive engineering that puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. She is all booked in for a thorough service and will lack for nothing mechanically. Detailing is also booked in and that should restore her beyond factory finish (eventually). The only other upgrade needed is the driver so I'm looking to visit Don Palmer or Car Limits at some point. She deserves it.

Thanks for this OC, I know the area fairly well but will track down sugar hill for example in the summer when I'm down there.
A few years on the trot about 5 years ago a few from 911uk had a mini meeting there for the Poole Quay meet - me, Jack Frost, Dom B & The c*ck - though Ben sold his Vesuvius C2S a few years back. Perhaps we should arrange another at some stage.
Cheers

Has my 997 for two months now....it's not been cleaned yet and could definitely do with it! Too much fun to be had driving it rather than cleaning it.
Taking it to the PEC at Silverstone on Friday morning for a 90 minute one on one driving tuition session organised by PCGB....can't wait!

I've just been to the 2016 Dinslaken Porsche show with the 911UK guys and had a great weekend. A couple of pics from the weekend.
Washed and ready to go

At the show

The event, every type of Porsche you could wish to see

These guys reminded me of the friends episode with Joey and the Porsche
