I am looking to change the brake fluid on my 993, I have changed brake fluid before but never on this car which I assume has the hydraulic booster, it does at least have the black bottle type canister behind the spare wheel. Not sure if that's just for the clutch or even both??

I have an easybleed kit which connects to the reservoir on one end and a tyre on the other for its pressure.

Is there a particular process to bleed the brakes or is it just a matter of pressurising the system and cracking the bleed nipples as normal?

The system is as you say for clutch and brakes.

There are two bleed nipples on each caliper - inner and outer - obviously do both.

The good news is that you have to bleed from the clutch slave as well, which sits on top of the gearbox.

Did I say good news? It's a challenge if you don't have the car six feet up in the air, but I'll bet no mechanic (OPC or otherwise) has bled yours for fifteen years, so be prepared for a large amount of black gunge. At least your clutch should operate better afterwards.

I use Motul RBF600 as it is an exceptional all-rounder. Buy it from Opie, along with all your other fluids. Don't forget to do the gearbox oil at around 60k miles.

Procedure for changing brake fluid.

Top up brake fluid if required. Fill reservoir with new brake fluid up to upper edge. Connect bleeder device to reservoir. Clamp shut overflow hose/venting hose with a hose clamp. The overflow hose/venting hose has been omitted as from October 1995; see Technical Information, Group 4, No. 16/95.

Switch on bleeder device. Bleeder pressure approx. 1.5 bar. Proceed with brake fluid change on the individual calipers (no particular sequence required). Open each bleeder valve until clear, bubble-free brake fluid escapes or until the respective change quantity per caliper is reached (approx. 250 c.c.). Make sure all brake calipers are bled on both bleeder valves. Also drain some brake fluid at the bleeder valve of the clutch slave cylinder (approx. 50 c.c.).

Hi Orangecurry, do I need to drain or bleed the pressure accumulator at the bleed nipple on the "black bomb" shaped canister or am I making this more complicated than it need be?
