Possibly the nicest SC targa for sale
Discussion
My cousin and uncle both had one of these and I was lucky enough to have a drive. In fact that may even be my uncles old car as it was exactly the same spec and he died young and I never knew what happened to his car - just assumed his wife must have sold it. The SC targa handles like a boat but is very engaging to drive and the engine is a peach although not powerful in the modern sense but plenty of power to make swift progress on UK roads. To make smooth and swift progress you really have to be a decent driver and owning one really does teach you to be a better and more precise driver. I'm sold on them completely and can't understand how anyone could think that pretty little car is ugly.
I did not mean for this to turn into a valuation thread because values are a more difficult one. I've driven a 991.1 C2S and a targa is circa £110k I think maybe bit more. Lovely as the 991 is I'd pick the old timer every time against the 991 (which I also like very much). Read what you like into that re values but the old [new] timer is still £40k-£50k cheaper than a new 991 targa.
I remember a few years ago when everyone was moaning about good air cooled 911s being £25k-£35k being too expensive when prices rose steeply from £15k for a mint one. Porsche at the time wanted £35,000 from me for a new exchange mezger engine so the way I rationalised values which had risen 150% at the time was that good to mint air cooled 911 at £25- £35k must still be cheap. It was a good call as vales have risen 100- 300% again from that inflection point depending on what you bought with all air-cooled RS and CS being the biggest climbers for obvious reasons
I know of two similar condition 3.2 Carrera coupes which are obviously more desirable selling for £90k on the nose recently. One had 57k miles the other 28k miles.
I love this 986 Boxster too but you cannot compare to the old timer in terms of build quality. One is Japanese build quality and production methods which is still very good but nothing compared to the old timer which is properly screwed together cost no object. Its amazing that 25 year old air cooled cars rattle less than 986/987/981 and 996/997/991!

Out of interest prices are now where they are so what do people think realistic fair prices for both of these old cars are if you seriously wanted to buy them?

Wow!And I mean that more about the car than the price.

Much as I'd love a brown SC Targa, not too long ago, that was a £15k - £20k car.
As for that Boxster. The world has gone mad.
I have a 986S, so hopefully the current crazy trends will continue
Not trying to defend SC price in any way but it is v.difficult to say that SC was a £15k-£20k a few years ago as I've never seen a mint, one owner, very low miles SC targa come up for sale in the good old days when admittedly a very nice air cooled could be had for £15k. I'd love to see the service history on the brown targa. As for that Boxster. The world has gone mad.

The white Boxster is gorgeous but when you consider this very nice looking similar car is £6500 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... I agree £22000 is hallucinogenic induced dream world.
I remember Chris Chilton buying a lovely G50 3.2 Carrera Coupe with 55,000 miles in Baltic Blue for £15000 back in 2007. it was a rare 3.2 in the sense it was specced with factory AC which actually worked! It wasn't a particularly cheap car at the time! How times change. Silly boy sold it after a year. He'll never find another one like that and thats the crux of it. Plenty of rusty air cooled out there that look very pretty on the outside with shiny new paint but in reality are riddled with tin worm. That can be said for 90% of the air cooled 911s for sale so good ones much rarer than people give credit for. Good G50 coupes changing hands for £90000 recently says it all and I viewed one of them - whilst it was lovely it really wasn't concourse which was how it was described by the OPC selling it. Be interesting where they settle over next few years. I still think mint ultra low mile 911s particularly 993 C2 are relatively cheap even at current prices but I have seen no collector quality UK supplied RHD manual 993 C2 coupe for sale since 1999. I reckon they've all been squirrelled away.
It's a 'curiosity' - lots of things that aren't generally liked - Targa, Brown, Pasha, Cookie Cutters.... but somehow interesting because of all that. And, of course, the low mileage and narrow bodied, un-spoilered look gives it that 'time warp' desirability.
But the price is a reflection of this crazy period we're going through.
I like the IB cars, but for that money I'd be wanting an exceptional Carrera 3.2 G50 Coupe - better all round car, better drive and better value IMO.
However, if you really must have an SC Targa - this looks more sensible: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Here's possibly a nicer one for some tastes with only 8000 miles. If you think the lovely brown targa is comically priced do not click on the link! https://hexagonclassics.com/cars/porsche-911-class...

I believe that the Paragon Porsche SC up for £76k has a replacement odometer clock in it which could possibly put some people off.......I know any part of a car can break but I certainly wouldn't feel very comfortable buying a car with out the original odometer in it.
If it has been documented in the service book by an OPC I really do not see the problemSRT Hellcat said:

And of course ensure that the correct date stamp (matching the date the speedo was replaced) is shown in the triangle stamped on the back of the gauge...I've seen plenty where car was dated 1979 and had an '83 stamp on the speedo...IMI A said:
