Bit of Monday morning man maths going on - shall I stick with my 65k mile 993 C2 manual in Iris Blue or twist to a 50k mile 993 Turbo (where I think I could do a deal)

Both are strictly weekend cars so low mileage

That depends entirely upon how you like to drive. The 993 C2 is a lovely thing to hustle along a twisty road and is more than capable of GT duties. The Turbo will smash a twisty road into submission rather than slice through it. If it's performance you're after then go for it, but these days 400bhp isn't the fantastical number it once was. With family saloons now coming with 560bhp you can do 200mph in lots of stuff if that's your bag.

If I could afford a Turbo I'd get one. I wouldn't give up my air-cooled, n/a 911 to buy one though.

I'm of the same opinion. Test drove a 993 turbo years back when they were (nearly) affordable. Fantastically fast and very secure, but now I've had my C2 NB for so many years, I wouldnt chop it in for a turbo. Sometimes more is less.

So maybe a further twist on the thread - I've also got a 996 GT3 Gen2 with 9k miles on it - trade that for the 993 Turbo or keep?

You are Jackal and ICMFP....

IMO you have the best of both worlds - as the boys above have said the 993 Turbo doesn't involve in the same way your existing cars do. It may or may not be a better long-term financial proposition over the C2, but the GT3 is destined for cult status.

IMO you'd be mad to chop in either car, but what you should be doing is driving them and enjoying them.

Is Mrs Ametric due a new kitchen soon? Perhaps a three-car deal could be struck?

Turbos are GT cars, C2s (and GT3s!!!!) are sports cars. The difference in weight is substantial.

If you prefer the former, yes (but not the GT3!!!); if not, no don't do it.

Although a 993 turbo is obviously hugely desirable I think the rear spoiler ruins the lines
and I prefer the look of a standard C2. I'll worry about this more when I can afford a turbo.

Do it if you can make the figures work; nice though a normal C2 is, it's not as desirable (to me) as a Turbo, either now or back when they were current models. Keep the GT3 smile

Are you utterly mad Sir?!!! You already have a pretty much perfect combination. I'm of the opinion of some of the chaos above and would prefer a 993 C2 over a turbo anyway. But sell a low miles 996 GT3 - one of the greatest drivers cars ever built - to get a 993 turbo? Never. Wait for a lovely sunny day and take out your 993 for a hoon in the morning, then swap to your GT3 in the afternoon. By the end of the day you will have tecovered from your dilerium, have become normal again and any thoughts of 993 turbos will be banished and filed away as one of your madder ideas .

993 turbos are a very nice Gentlemen's cruiser but should not be confused as being a sports car. More of a black tie outfit rather the smart causal attire that one would wear when taking out your favourite lady.

As Steve Rance says "GT3- one of the best drivers cars every built" so drive it, what's the point of having such fabulous cars if you don't use them for their intended design. Everyone likes the idea of their beloved Porsche increasing in value, it's just a warm feeling, but couple that with the fact that you can actually rag it around whenever you like then the increase in value is only the cherry on the icing.
If you're in it for investment chop in the C2 for a turbo, park it under a cover in a dehumidified garage at the side of the GT3, uncover them in 10 years and count your cash!! That just doesn't seem like fun to me though. I actually get the feeling you are a true Porsche fan and a deal for 3 is really the way to progress this.

Good luck with your dilemma, I wish it was mine, I'm just on my way to pick up some track wheels for my C4, everyone to their own!!!

The weight difference between a '96 285hp 993 (iris blue so likely a '96) and a 993 turbo is actually about 100kg, this is from measured weights by Sport Auto mag. 100kg is not substantial, the main difference will be steering feel which becomes somewhat numbed (4WD set up) in comparison to the C2. Personally I'd take the 993 turbo over any 996 but then I have never been able to get over the 996's inherent ugliness (IMO)

I agree with Toby (obviously my opinion is totally biased) and there's always weight that can be taken out of a turbo and power that can be added.

My 993 Turbo with RS seats and factory sunroof delete weighs (as confirmed last week) 1430 kg with a full tank of fuel. Hardly a heavyweight. All 993's need suspension upgrades to make them more driver focused.

That gives me a target! I'd better look for some lightweight seats...

Not a bad weight. There you are, you have your answer. just take some weight out of it.
