Trickle chargers

Just bought a ctec mxs 5.0 trickle charger for my 1988 911. Never used one before so just wondered will it need to be connected all the time? or once a week also does the battery need to be disconnected from the car? Any other advice

I keep mine on all the time because my car is kept under wraps at all times and taking the cover off is an arse.

I'm not sure what I will do once I upgraded the battery though

Nope I plug the trickle into the cig lighter in the cabin. Works a treat
