I am tempted to take tomorrow off to go and see it in East Anglia. I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows the car and can give me the heads up before I drive 100 miles!!

Many thanks in advance

In pic 3 the door looks a different colour to the rear wing.

Don't know it but it does look very tidy. I'd be looking closely for rust more than anything else.
Good luck if you do go.

Thanks for spotting that.

I wonder if that's the light? Seller says that the paint is the original paint with zero rust. I will look closely at that door tomorrow.

Anything else to know?

That's not the original SC steering wheel.

Unlikely

They are of an age that serious rust that cant be seen is a real issue. I would get an expert inspection or that might be 44K + another 10-20K to fix

Low mileage will appeal to some, but it is still a LHD Targa SC with 915 g/b.

Only my thoughts, but if I was spending that kind of money on a classic aircooled 911, I think there would be better options in terms of investment protection and driving enjoyment - although, granted, with a few more mls and perhaps a touch more money

Engine cover is about 10mm too low on the off side too. It's not the original paint either. Passenger door to rear three quarter is a bus ride out.

on a related note, after reading this I decided to drive my 3.2 to work today :0

and it bit me !

bit 'enthusiastic' coming round a big roundabout and the rear snapped out. Managed to hold it in the slide and control where it was pointing (it wanted to complete the spin !) and then it snapped back savagely into line and I carried on much more sedately leaving a huge cloud of blue tyre smoke behind frown 10 seconds of terror.

The huge amount of castor is a pain when parking, but it doesnt half flick the steering onto OL then back when it snaps into line again.

Time to treat the old lady like a classic, rather than a race car !

Time to visit Center Gravity to make sure your geo is right. They are not the psychopathic monsters people have vilified as such. They just need setting up correctly. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best and their bill will look paltry compared to a prang on a greasy roundabout.

I'd agree with that. I've done over 250,000 mls in numerous 911s, in all sorts of conditions, but I've never had the back step out on the road, only deliberate lift-off oversteer on a track.

No such handling issues during my drive of this car along the Norfolk Coast yesterday!

Seller is a nice gentleman who has a lovely collection of half a dozen classics. He seems to know his stuff and the car was as advertised. In fact, the condition is even better than I was expecting. The tyres were 2012 I think, so they could do with replacing. The paint looks good and the interior is genuinely mint.

We drove along the Coast road with the targa roof off and the engine, gearbox and suspension worked perfectly.

I am worried that the vendor is not actually that willing to sell the car as he seems to relish in the condition of it. My only issue is the price. I made an offer but he declined. How much is a 37k mile, mint, 911sc worth??? I am stuck about a decade ago, when SCs were cheap. Can the market have moved on this much and can they be worth £40K plus?

I loved the car, and I'm not looking for an investment, but I don't like paying over the odds.

Any thoughts please?

It's still a sellers market for mint, original cars. Could you find another in this condition? If the answer is no then you will inevitably have to pay over the odds for it.

They are not monsters but I think they do need to be driven correctly - meaning how a 911 likes to be driven. If deliberately provoked they will bite. A good friend wrote off his 3.2 coming off a roundabout and he is normally the king of oversteer. Having said I've owned 11 Porsches over the years and driven many miles and the only one I crashed was the only non 911 - a 944.

I think it's this car (but with euro spec rear bumper now fitted). Out of line engine cover is the same.

On the engine lid, the L/H panel gap looks good but the R/H one seems to taper - could just be rhe picture / light.

Engine lid sitting a bit low on the R/H, just needs a couple of turns on the rubber stop to level it up.

Oh Ive driven a few miles in it, and its amazing how benign it normally is, had to lift off and brake once because a cow was stood in the road round a tight bend.. Front edges into light oversteer and weight transfer onto nose nicely quells it and the rear is normally has a light breakaway. Maybe there was a bit of diesel on the apex, but I just gave it a little too much throttle. It was controllable in a way, but it went fast, really fast (ok I was doing about 60-70 at the apex) and it thought it was going round, but managed to hold it in the slide.

But, it is 31 years old and might do with new tie rods and a geo, maybe time to get a new wheel bearing as one has been slightly loose for awhile, but its frightening to slide a car worth so much and so difficult to replace (29k FPSH)

So I need to stop provoking it smile
