I want to change the bonnet struts on my 993, after reading various threads, it seems that the originals don’t last long before they sag again. Apparently the fitting process can be fiddly, which is likely not something I would want to do every couple of years; so has anyone fitted better/heavy duty types that would last for a long time?

Do you absolutely have to use struts? The old fashioned bonnet-stay (metal stick) worked perfectly well without getting weak or losing pressure.
That said, there are a multitude of heavy duty gas struts available on eBay and Amazon - take some measurements and take yer pick

I guess I don't have to use struts, though I feel inclined to keep it original (as it is). I also didn't consider a metal stick as I assumed it would need some kind of 'other' fitting (as it always seems to be whenever I try change something on anything....) and didn't want the perceived faffing around.

I fitted new struts about 10 yrs ago; genuine Porsche parts; no issues so far.
A little tricky to fit but it’s for sure a DIY job. Took about 30 mins.

I would just go with standard parts. They will last many years and will be the right strength.

I think on balance you're probably correct. I will get some OEMs

Mine are now eight years old and only occasionally seem to struggle to keep the bonnet up. Genuine oem
parts

I replaced mine at the end of last year with OEM parts.. The old [original] struts were struggling to keep the Bonnet up..

You just need a trustworthy mate or a broom handle during the swap out..!
