I changed the battery yesterday, and noticed this rubber tube in the boot. I was a bit squeezed for space and couldn't get full access to investigate further.

Does anyone know what it is/where it goes to/from?

PS: Thumbsnap has rotated the image 90 deg clockwise.

Looks like the vent tube from the battery. The battery has a vent hole on the side and this tube connects into it to vent away from the battery area.
I recall my tube having a small black connector which seems to be missing from the end of your tube.

I'm not saying it isn't so, but that's an odd one as I've never bought or fitted a battery that has a vent tube to any of my cars. Is this a 993 specific thing ? or an option should the battery require it?

The tube was already there, and was not fitted to the battery I replaced (Halfords own brand), the battery I have fitted is a Yuasa.

Yup it’s the battery vent tube .... Should be a removable bung on the battery to insert it in to ..... I’m pretty sure the previous poster is correct that you have an L shaped plastic part missing off the end of the pipe.

Ok, thanks guys. I will look in the boot for the missing part.
