993 RS Clubsport
Discussion
Got this today from the helpful guys at Ashgood. It is polar silver which I think is an epic colour on the 993, and apparently was a PTS option for the club sport (only 6 or 7 cars).
First impressions are fantastic. There is no headlining, and only some carpet mats for driver and passenger but no other carpet or NVH material. So you can hear everything the engine and gearbox are doing behind you, and the chattering of the single mass flywheel too. Encouraging you to drop down to second and red line it through the gears
Very positive turn in and steering feel give a lot of confidence in the front end of the car which I wasn’t expecting but a nice surprise. You can feel this is a light car by modern standards, and all the better for it! Need more seat time lockdown permitting.

Every time that I drive a well set up air cooled on decent tyres it strikes me how capable they are and how much Porsche have drifted towards a design philosophy which in many ways is a backward step.
I remember driving my 993 on slicks at Oulton just after a Carrera cup race. Using the same braking point for turn 1, the turn in was just brutal compared to the 997 Cup and when I held a heavy trail into the apex it scrubbed so much speed off it had almost stopped before the apex. It was so much lighter on its feet and willing to change direction. After a few laps I was braking a lot later with only a fraction of the trail needed for the 997. So much more deft and delicate.
Lovely car Andrew. Enjoy

Thanks guys. Steve - I fully get what you mean, it’s a world away from the more modern 911 GT’s, even my beloved 997 4.0RS. I think it is just nimble and precise in a way the later cars aren’t, and you can feel more what the car is doing.
Koln- Porsche didn’t offer polar silver on the clubsport and so a German Porsche dealer (I believe in Munich) got 6 or 7 people to request it and it was done as a custom colour.

...look, as a 'beard', it is important to me to get this straight...
PTS means 'paint to sample', which means any colour you like.
Polar Silver was always a 'Porsche colour', and therefore never PTS, that according to my reading was a costed 'option' on the early 993, but became a standard colour on the later cars.
.......oh the OP's car? Yeah it's ok I suppose - old, low, uncomfortable; don't like Polar silver......

Congratulations on your purchase, it looks a great example, Ashgood know these cars well!
From my 911 experience, these cars are still an event after 14 years of ownership, the size, feedback with enough power to have fun have not been bettered since.
Just to clarify the colour situation, the 993 RS was available in 5 solid and 2 metallic paint finishes, the 2 metallics were not a standard option on the CS variant and would have been a special order.
As with all the best Porsche it takes a while and few miles to learn and get the best out of a CS, look forward to future postings on your experience.
