993 & Porsche Classic LED headlights
Discussion
So, with Philips and Osram and the likes offering LED "bulbs" to retrofit to classic car headlights fitting e.g. H1 or H4 bulbs, Porsche Classic has finally certified a retrofit kit for the 993 at a reasonable price. Talking to my local dealer however, the LEDs are designed to replace the factory standard halogen bulbs and not intended as a 1:1 replacement for the original Litronic xenons. Litronic obviously has a separate voltage conditioner and power limiter. Am I overlooking anything if I simply remove the factory Litronic voltage conditioner along with the old xenon bulbs to fit the LED "bulbs" from Porsche Classic?
I just bought some of these H1 LEDs that were supposed to be a straight plug and play replacement for the OEM bulbs in my 993.
they were suggested by somebody on the 911UK 993 forum.
but when I plug them into my car and turn the lights on they light up for about 1 second before blowing the fuse.
I've emailed the supplier asking if I'm doing something wrong or I have bought the wrong bulbs.
