A positivity thread! smile

Owning a Ferrari is a fabulous thing. As a petrolhead it feels like the ultimate reward, and other people often like to see them too, and it’s great to share the experience.

As owners of a Ferrari have you got any positive experiences to share of people enjoying seeing your car?

I’ll go first…

Waiting for daughter at her music lessons and a dad and daughter walked past. Dad was smiling and so was daughter. She looked over and said “That’s sooo cool, Ferrari”.

This one triggered the thread idea… Driving my daughter home afterwards and we were in traffic so going fairly slow as we moved forward towards the traffic lights. Windows were down as weather was nice. From down the side street as we creeped past we heard a very clear and distinct “OOH MY GOD!!! ITS A FERRARI!!!”… voice so loud that the youngster voice was cracking. We couldn’t see the owner of the voice, just heard it! laugh

Then tonight a couple of kids turned up at my door… “Excuse me, do you have a Ferrari in your garage?”. I said yes and they asked to look at it. Had a quick chat with them, they had seen me drive off a few days ago, they took their photos and went on their way.

Early into ownership I remember stopping at a junction and as I set off heading up the hill and a woman across the road pointed and said “Wow, look at that!” to her mate.

Plenty of conversations at petrols stations too.

Reactions are fun. Care to share your stories of similarly wholesome goodness? I’d love to read them! beer

It definitely brings smiles to people’s faces. A LOT!!!!

So many stories…

…in Brighton a group of 20 something Italians crossing the lights I am stopped at start shouting, whooping and making lots of complimentary noises such as “Bella” and lots of other Italian positive, (sounding), words
…also in Brighton coming up to the end of a side road turning onto the main sea front a large group of young, (30 odd 8-10 year old), kids with teachers/chaperones cross the road in front of me and proceed to stop, take pictures, make similar, albeit more muted, Italian positive sounds. Including the teachers/chaperones
…local kids often stopping and pointing as I drive by
…local kid sitting in the car, (at my beckoning), and picture taken by his Dad
…on our way back from Maranello, two French 20 somethings very keen on the car so I invited them to sit in and take pictures/videos. All great but resulted in my wife getting a bit turned around and leaving her handbag, (containing phone, iPad, wallet, passport, jewellery, etc.), on the petrol pump. Noticed 40 mins down the road and required a 1 1/2 hour back road dash to retrieve - luckily handed into the station - perhaps by the chaps who sat in the car
…so many more. It brings a lot of joy and little to no negative comments or obvious feelings

A few years ago I was waiting my turn at the local McDonald drive-through.

Sat outside on the benches was an older woman and young lad (mother and son maybe). Woman says to young lad “look, there’s a Ferrari“. Young lad looks up and enthusiastically says “WOW, it’s a McLaren 720S”. Mother didn’t believe him so shamelessly walked up to front of bonnet to read the badge, then gave me a thumbs-up.

True story.

- Stationary at lights when a group of nursery kids waiting to cross shouted "make some noise, make some noise". So, I very much did (tubi straight pipes on the rear at that point). Kids all started jumping around and laughing. Teacher gave me a "how old are you anyway" look.
- Getting ready to leave the FoS and got chatting to a father and teenage son. I offered to let the son get in, start her up and gently play around with the revs to get a feel for it. I hope I helped make his day.

Ones that stick to mind, not all in a Ferrari

84 year old lady and her daughter came for a chat at a petrol station. The older lady was a massive petrol head and was really interested.

Driving through a town with roof down, family comes out a shop and boy (about 6 or 7 years old) shouts at the top of his voice repeatedly "its a lamborghini"

Fortunately never had a particularly bad interaction

In the 1 1/2 months of owning my Mac, I've had a few families stop at the top of my drive looking at the car when cleaning her on the drive.

The kids see it, but I always invite them and family down to have a closer look and for the kids to sit in it.

I was at Beaulieu recently and a kid asked to sit in a Mac and the owner said no (I can't be sure why) so we invited them to sit in my Mac.

Had 3 random ones alone on Sunday driving the Aston back home. Two on the motorway in traffic, one thumbs up and smile from the lady in the passenger seat as the right hand lane inched ahead quicker and one from the bloke driving as the left hand hand moved slightly quicker in traffic.
The other was a lady walking past in the Tesco car park who said what a beautiful car, as I was waiting for my wife to come back from grabbing some water.

I can’t really remember many reactions from the F12 days except my Italian customers on learning I had a Ferrari. I remember in the 308GTS I was sat in her at South Mimms and a bloke said hello and an 80s Magnum chat with both of us laughing.

The Sagaris used to get the most reactions.

I had a black MK3 Targa Tuscan, based on Sagaris running gear. Looked like the Batmobile. What a hoot, but not so much fun in the damp. Tuscan would get a lot of attention.

I’ve given Italians rides in my car when I’ve been in Italy - that’s peak gratitude.

This photo oop resulted in a few photos of Italians sitting in the car.

(It wasn't me) - I used to let pretty much anybody sit in my car at shows. I became much more selective when a kid got in the passenger side and walked over the seat / centre console to the driver seat.

Now, sometimes I'll say yes and sometimes I'll say no depending on the situation.

sometime this summer a guy walked up to me at the petrol station to asked if he could take a pic of my car to show his son - he said it is the son's favourite car and he had never seen one in person. it is a small thing, but stuff like that does make me happy - I still remember being young and pre-youtube etc, it was special to see one of these cars - usually you only saw them in car magazines but hardly ever in person

I've had nothing but positivity in the 355 over the years. Petrolheads chatting in car parks and petrol stations and interested kids sitting in the driving seat for a photo are really quite common. The moment that most sticks in the mind is a group of schoolkids who walked past when I was stuck in traffic. A few of them got their phones out and made the international hands gesture for "mash the throttle". I switched the exhaust valve to cat bypass mode and duly obliged, the Capristo exhaust wailing into action. At least half of them absolutely shat themselves.
