F12 First proper road trip
Discussion
I've had the F12 for a few months but have just spent 4 days in Scotland enjoying the great roads around the borders and then heading up to the highlands and specifically the road through Glenshee and on up to Grantown.
Amazing roads and stunning scenery.
I have now properly gelled with the F12 and it's amazing. Some may remember I swapped my 458 Spider for the F12. I bloody love it, it's utterly fantastic, stupidly fast and a properly great driving car. I don't regret the swap at all. It's got two personalities, calmish GT, as long as you watch the speed, and then flip into manual and let it off the leash.
As much as I am looking forward to getting back into the 720, I know I am going to miss this at the same time. I definitely have the perfect garage, it's just shame I can't drive both at the same time. Oh and then there's the air cooled 911, that needs driving
There's not enough time in the day.
I'm planning an Alps trip for next year in the F12 and really can't wait.

Again you have the best colour, really suits the F12 even more than the 458,
The F12 to me is the modern 275GTB /Daytona at a fraction of the price

We’ve just come back from ten days in the F12 down to Monza. Drove down via the Black Forest and over the Spluegen Pass (not ideal F12 territory as it’s quite an old and tight pass (51 hairpins on the way down…)), four days in Milan as a base for the GP, then a couple of days on Lake Garda via the Mille Miglia museum and home via Alsace and Champagne. We did just under 2000 miles. Was a fantastic trip and the F12 was epic.

I find it interesting how some roads are unsuitable and some are. On my way up I went on a favourite through Teesdale and it was awful. The next section through Weardale was fine. Driven them both in other cars and not had an issue.

What tyres are you running and how old are they? The F12 is very tyre sensitive. On my way up I went on a favourite through Teesdale and it was awful. The next section through Weardale was fine. Driven them both in other cars and not had an issue.

It s on Pirelli s and I m planning on replacing them next year due to age, loads of tread left but they will be five years old by then. Ideally I d wear them out
I ve noticed it will tramline quite badly on the wrong surface.
It's a mystery to me why Ferrari sent their cars out the door with Pirellis. The F12 and FF tramline horribly with Pirellis in situations where Michelins or Contis are completely stable. When you make the change, don't worry about K-homologation marks as none of the modern choices have been F12 homologated. As you've discovered, the K1 Pirellis are terrible and while the K1 MPSS is better, it's an old design and increasingly hard to get hold of. Your options for change are MPS4S in OEM sizes or Conti SC7 (sized up by 10mm front and rear because they aren't available in OEM sizing).

If you're planning to drive the F12 over winter and aren't willing to put winter boots on, I'd suggest ditching the Pirellis now before they put you in a ditch!
You have to change to Michelin, night and day, especially in UK. There is a great thread over on Ferrarichat about improving F12 Handling. I went Michelin and good Geo setup, but I’m still tempted by the TDF Spring Set Up that the thread speaks about. No tyre is any good on a F12, unless warmed up! I do not drive my car in the winter in the UK, I’m not into this winter tyres swap out option.
