I fitted my new winter tyres/wheels today. I found a definite crack rights through the carbon disk. It doesn’t seem to originate from one of the bolts that seem to cause occasional problems.

I’ve already ordered a replacement rear carbon disk. I’m almost certain that the car has not been tracked and it’s on 31,500 miles.

I weighed the front disks a month ago and they were 25% worn by weight. I didn’t get round to checking the rears.

What might cause a crack like this? It’s right through the disk and can be seen from both front and rear of the disk.

I used to work for AP Racing. Carbon-carbon started out for aircraft applications such as Concorde and was then repurposed for racing cars, in our case using Hitco material from USA. I anticipate Ferraris carbon-ceramic brakes are probably from Brembo, another very serious supplier.

Carbon discs behave very differently from conventional steel rotors. In some ways carbon is very resilient but in other ways it can be surprisingly brittle. This link may be of some use to you, although you're probably well on top of things if you've already ordered new parts.
