Been tidying old photos and came across this:



My old Chiaro blue pre ABS 328. Not currently MOT-ed but hopefully safe and sound. I put the rear spoiler on it and sourced a sports exhaust, selling the old standard one to a chap in Austria.

I believe we are queued waiting for the ferry back to the UK post Le Mans in 2008. Happy days. Sold to fund a 355GTS. I bought the 328 for £26k and sold for £26.5k. F355 cost £31k!!

It's been SORN. Last on the road 2019. The mileage was 58,512 at the last mot.

What was the 328 GTS like compared to the F355 GTS?

I’d also love to know what happened to my old ‘87 328 GTB, chassis number 73435 and was wearing E876 FTM when I sold it.

It lives in Worcestershire. With the current owner since 2010, I believe. I'm not sure I should post the current registration but PM me if you want to know it,

What was the 328 GTS like compared to the F355 GTS?
The 328 felt like a reasonably modern classic car whereas the 355 felt like an oldish modern, if that make sense. Obviously the 355 was quicker in every sense and handled better but both interiors were pretty low rent, I used to think that my Alfa GT with tan leather was actually better put together. But still gave a great sense of occasion.

At best the 328 was nippy but no more. Both had a sports exhaust as sounded pretty flat with the standard fit. The big difference between the '86 car and '97 one was the running costs.

The 355 needed 2 belt changes, both radiators re-cored, both exhaust manifolds replaced, new clutch and ate rear tyres. That was a fair few £k over my ownership! All to be expected for a £100k car but a couple of levels above the 328, which could easily be spannered by an enthusiast at home.

Ultimately the 355 sold to part fund a house build and I had owned it 8 years, the 328 was only a stepping stone. I tell my self I'd still own the 355 had I not needed the money for the build. Whether that would have actually been the case, who knows but it was the longest I have ever owned a car.

However I cannot convince myself that 328s and 355s are really worth upwards of £70k for the F-car experience. But that argument of use vs 'investment potential' rages across all classics currently.
